What You Will Contribute To Altos
The Director, Chief of Staff / Administration will report to Dr. Hana El-Samad based in our Redwood City Office. The successful candidate will thrive in an entrepreneurial environment that stresses teamwork, transparency, scientific excellence, and integrity. The incumbent will serve as a key, strategic, and trusted partner to the Institute Director (ID) and other leaders within Altos and the Institute of Computation (IoC). They will be expected to lead, motivate, and influence as directed by the Institute Director. They will be immersed in strategic and operational elements of the IoC, ensuring optimum operational and financial performance of the Institute in partnership with the Institute Director. This role will act as a culture champion and catalyst guiding the implementation of the Altos Value and Behaviors within the Institute and across Altos.
Who You Are
Oversee day-to-day operations of the Institute of Computation (IoC)
- Provide executive-level advising, project leadership, execution, and facilitation and be a key cross-functional collaborator
- Participate and contribute to the development, execution, and achievement of IoC's overall strategic plan and growth strategy in partnership with the Institute Director, IoC leadership team, and Functional Leads.
- Able to influence others, adapt quickly, think creatively, and work efficiently in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
- Collaborate across multiple internal functions including prioritization of internal and external activities based on impact and strategic goals.
- Key Partner to Corporate Groups, helping to facilitate cross Altos initiatives and communications
- Problem-solve, create processes, and execute business operations tasks
- Manage financials, budget (operating expenses and capital), and workforce plans in partnership with the Finance and People teams for IoC groups and projects
- Coordinate organizational procedures for optimized efficiency and productivity as well as streamline collaboration across team members.
- Strong communication skills and ability to engage with senior leaders in a professional manner
- Interact and build key relationships with business leaders across the organization.
- Lead, oversee, and/or manage critical projects as well as communicate project status to stakeholders and key project participants.
- Be a culture catalyst- guiding implementation of the Altos Value and Behaviors within IoC
- Able to maintain unambiguous accountability for the on-time delivery of commitments.
- Lead the development and effective execution of IoC meeting agendas and ensure a positive and productive experience for the different teams within IoC
- In partnership with the Institute Director, prepare and present relevant institute data, progress, roadmaps, and strategic priorities.
- Assist the Institute Director in the preparation of meeting materials, slide decks, and vision papers for external partnerships and business opportunities and help manage these relationships with our compliance and confidentiality mandates in mind.
- Prepare and manage materials by request, for the Institute Director
- Identify and recommend the internal and/or external resources required for the timely completion of projects
- Upon request, respond to inquiries on behalf of the Institute Director
- May lead employee institute-specific onboarding, employee experience, and events
- Keep ID up-to-date with developments in the various teams, projects, and across Altos
- Manages external speakers, and Institute events
- Develop and manage the IoC administrative team
Minimum Qualifications
- 8+ years of relevant experience working in similar roles
- People/Team leadership experience
- Ability to pick up new processes and technology quickly
- A critical thinker with the ability to analyze possibilities and solutions and make pragmatic trade-offs, as well as a big-picture innovator who can identify possibilities and is comfortable with ambiguity
- Clear and influential communicator: exceptional influencing skills that demonstrate strong thought partnership and create effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Strong organization and multitasking skills with a sense of urgency
- Excellent time management and project management skills
- Detail and results-oriented
- Able to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
- Approaches new challenges and high-pressure situations with a positive attitude and calm demeanor
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Advanced knowledge of Google Workspace and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)
- Experience working in Biotech / Life Sciences preferred
The compensation available for the role considers a variety of factors including, but not limited to, work location, individual skill set, previous/applicable experience, and other business needs.
The salary range for this role is as follows:
Director: $268,600 - $363,400
