This is an Excepted Service position. Selected candidate must be a District resident or establish residency within 180 days of hire.

BACKGROUNDThe Chief of Staff to the Deputy Mayor for Education will serve as a key adviser to the Deputy Mayor. The chief of staff will play a crucial leadership role in ensuring Washington, DC meets the Mayor's ambitious goals for the public education and workforce sectors. The Chief of Staff will help to ensure strong oversight over local agencies in the education cluster (including DC Public Schools, OSSE, DPR, DOES and the WIC), along with strong coordination and alignment with relevant independent agencies (including the DC Public Charter School Board, UDC and the public libraries). In addition, the role will help to develop and sustain a highly collaborative approach to solving citywide challenges and implementing solutions, to include coordinating across multiple city agencies, and the civic and private sectors. Importantly, the Chief of Staff will ensure equity is centered in the work of the DME and will also help to include the voices of residents, community-based organizations, families and students of the District of Columbia in decision-making. This role will focus on overseeing office operations, ongoing solution development to complex education and workforce challenges, and support for implementation oversight.
The Deputy Mayor for Education (DME) is responsible for developing and implementing the Mayor's vision for academic and workforce excellence and creating a high quality education continuum from birth through career (from early childhood to K-12 to post-secondary and into family-sustaining jobs).
