The Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service seeks applications for a Chief of Staff to join their team at the University of Virginia. The Chief of Staff will work closely with the Executive Director and the senior leadership team to manage operations, facilitate communication and provide strategic support to ensure the center's strategic goals are met. The Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service at the University of Virginia (UVA) is a multidisciplinary organization dedicated to enhancing the well-being of the people of Virginia and the nation through leadership development, public policy research, and service. The successful candidate will be expected to carry out the following duties and responsibilities and act in an independent manner Strategic Planning and Execution : Partner with leadership team to set strategic priorities, communication, tracking progress of strategic initiatives and projects ensuring they stay on schedule to meet goals and identifying and addressing any potential challenges and/or opportunities that may impact the meeting of the center's strategic goals. Operational Management : Manage leadership teams schedules, prioritize tasks, meeting preparation, and overseeing daily operations. Budget and Finance: Partner with leadership to develop annual budget, financial reporting and financial analysis to ensure that the organization's financial resources are managed effectively and aligned with strategic goals. Communication and Stakeholder Management: Serve as a liaison between the Executive Director and internal/external stakeholders, collaborate with other Chief of Staffs within the center to establish cohesive and efficiency within the center, ensure message consistency throughout the center, build and maintain stakeholder relationships, to include board members. Leadership and Team Development: Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement. Problem-Solving and Decision Support: Conduct research, gather data and provide analysis to support decisions, manage special projects and initiatives, and act as a problem solver in times of crisis. Governance and Compliance: Adhere to governance standards and policy requirements and helping to implement organization policies and procedures. Additional Responsibilities: Assist in managing the budget, assist with planning and coordinating events, meetings and travel. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree with at least five years of relevant experience or a master's degree with at least two years of relevant experience; experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in strategic management, budgeting and liaison work in higher education is preferred. Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities. Excellent organizational and project management skills. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. Proven ability to work effectively with senior executives and diverse teams. High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism. Proficiency in relevant software and tools (e.g., Workday, Microsoft Office Suite, project management software).
