- A minimum of 15+ years of engineering experience (Software, Network, Satellite, or RF Engineering), with at least 5 years of PEO/PM level experience in Tactical Networks.
Job Description:
We are seeking a highly experienced Chief Scientist to provide strategic technical leadership and engineering expertise for tactical network systems within the Army. The ideal candidate will support the development, testing, evaluation, and integration of advanced communication technologies, ensuring alignment with Army requirements and interoperability standards.
The Chief Scientist will be responsible for leading efforts related to the Capability Set (CS) and Integrated Tactical Network (ITN) activities, performing thorough technical evaluations, risk assessments, and providing guidance on integrating new technologies to modernize the Army's tactical communications infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Electronics Engineering Processes: Lead the development and implementation of engineering processes, procedures, and best practices for software, network, RF, and satellite systems.
- Technical Leadership: Provide expertise in transport and networking architecture, focusing on current and future tactical network capabilities.
- Collaboration and Support: Collaborate with key Army organizations, including PEO C3T, ACM, and other PMs and PdMs, to ensure interoperability and effective integration of new technologies into tactical networks.
- Technical Evaluations: Conduct comprehensive design reviews and in-depth technical evaluations of network performance and architectures, supporting risk assessments and integration strategies.
- Acquisition Support: Review and analyze acquisition documentation (e.g., mission needs statements, ICDs, CDDs, CPDs, etc.) and contractor proposals for technical accuracy, ensuring compliance with Army standards and requirements.
Required Expertise:
- Network Engineering: Extensive experience in network design, architecture, and implementation, particularly with LANs and VLANs.
- Routing Protocols: Proficiency in routing protocols, multicast configurations, and IPv4/IPv6 addressing.
- Network Protocol Analysis: Experience with network analysis tools such as Sniffer or Wireshark for performance evaluations.
- Virtualization Technologies: Hands-on experience with VMware and other virtualization platforms.
- Commercial Communications Equipment: In-depth knowledge of commercial communication systems and their integration within Army tactical networks.
- RF Engineering: Strong background in RF engineering, voice/data transmission, and backbone networks.
- Modernization Efforts: Ability to evaluate and integrate new technologies to enhance tactical communications capabilities.
Qualifications:
- PhD in Engineering or a related field.
- 15+ years of engineering experience in software, network, satellite, or RF engineering, with at least 5 years of experience at the PEO/PM level in tactical networks.
- Expert-level knowledge in network engineering, end-to-end network design, and performance optimization.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with senior stakeholders and deliver technical presentations.
