As we embark on the expansion of our Early Learning Campus, we are seeking dedicated individuals to help shape the future of early childhood education at our state-of-the-art facility.In this role, you will plan and implement a consistent, high-quality early care and education program in a developmentally appropriate and inclusive learning environment. You will create individualized programming as needed, conduct child assessments, and foster a safe, nurturing space for children aged 6 weeks to 5 years old. Your work will directly contribute to the growth and success of the Early Learning Campus, ensuring every child receives exceptional care and education.As a Child Care & Development Specialist/Teacher, you will play a vital role in the classroom by ensuring compliance, leading student staff and interns, and supervising casual employees.   • Plans and facilitates a consistent, successful, high quality early care and education program, in a developmentally appropriate learning environment, including individualized programming as needed. Implements the educational philosophy of the center by co-planning appropriate learning and socialization activities for children, in terms of age, group size, composition, daily schedule, transitions, etc. Co-creates and supports an early childhood classroom environment conducive to children's growth and development. Provides for the needs of the individual child in relationship to his/her cultural and socio-economic background, emotional and physical make-up, and individual style and pace of learning Develop lesson plans on weekly and long-range basis.
  • Observes and records progress utilizing the assigned child assessment tool. Maintains up-to-date assessment documentation and uses this for lesson planning and parent communication.
  • Upholds the safety and physical wellbeing of all enrolled children. Ensures the classroom and playground are safe, clean, culturally and developmentally appropriate. Follows and ensures center safety and sanitation procedures; participates in daily/weekly cleaning of classroom and center ((light food prep, sanitizing: tables, toys, bedding, etc).
  • Meets and maintains compliance with all regulatory requirements including State Licensing Requirements, City Accreditation Standards, USDA Food Program Regulations, Wisconsin Early Learning Standards, and Center/Madison College Policies
  • Communicates with parents, through informal communication, newsletters, and formal conferences, for the purposes of exchanging information with them about their children's lives at the center and at home, and maintaining positive rapport. Addresses developmental and/or behavioral concerns promptly with parent/guardians in a supportive, positive manner. Conducts parent/teacher conferences at least 2x/year. Contributes to the center newsletter for families each month, as assigned.
  • Works cooperatively with other staff, as evidenced by exchanging ideas, information, feedback and support. Actively participates in staff meetings. Trains, directs, supervises and evaluates student/practicum teachers and student TAs, as assigned.
  • Participates in in-service, conferences and workshops to continue to grow and develop in the early care and education field, maintaining a minimum of 25 eligible continuing education hours annually.
  • Maintains a commitment to the college mission, vision, and values.
  • Other duties as defined by department, college, or officials.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Skill in communicating effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated skill in communications and human relations with populations of diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds and persons with disabilities.
  • Meets requirements of WI Licensing Rules for Group Child Care Centers (DCF 251) for physical exam, TB skin test, and criminal background check both upon hire and on ongoing basis. Achieve within 3 months and maintain current certification in first aid and CPR.
  • Ability to provide supportive leadership within a co-teaching model..
  • Skill in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate, play-based curriculum for the assigned age-range.
  • Knowledge and ability to record and use anecdotal observations for assessment and planning.
  • Knowledge and consistent implementation of appropriate child guidance techniques.
  • Thorough understanding of WI Child Care Licensing Standards and WI Early Learning Standards.
  • Physical stamina and ability to lift 50 pounds minimum.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Associate's degree or two-year technical diploma in Child Development, Early Childhood Development, or related field.
  • One (1) year (2,000 hours) work experience teaching young children in a licensed and accredited early childhood education setting.
  • WI Early Childhood Registry as Child Care Teacher or higher certificate preferred, or ability to secure certification within the first six (6) months of employment.
