GLOW YMCACHILD CARE DIRECTORFLSA Status: Full-Time Non-ExemptReports to: Executive Director POSITION SUMMARYThis position supports the work of the YMCA, a leading national nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living & social responsibility. The Child Care Director will provide direct oversight and development for all Genesee County Youth Development Programs; including, but not limited to: Before and After School Enrichment(BASE) child care, Summer Day Camp, and Batavia Recreation programming. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail oriented, a strong team-builder, who has a passion for serving others and comes with the experience to administer programming throughout the region. The Director is a visionary who sees the incredible potential in every child, and is passionate about making a direct impact in the lives of children, and families through a combination of growing existing programs, while developing new & creative programming.JOB DESCRIPTIONThe Program Director position includes; developing relationships with state regulatory officials, school administration, staff and faculty, families, part-time staff, and program participants; ensuring proper delivery and development of daily curriculum, monitoring (through regular site visits), evaluating, and improving program delivery, hiring, deploying, training and staff development, establishing collaborative community partnerships' marketing and promoting assigned Y programs, and working collaboratively with colleagues to accomplish collective goals. QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year accredited college or university is required. A focus on education, child development, or related fields is preferred.
    • 18 credits in child development/education/or recreation required.
    • *NYS Children's Program Administrator credential OR School Age Child Care Credential and Associates degree to be considered as well
  • Must be at least 21 years old with a valid driver's license.
  • 1-2 years of related experience as a Supervisor of Child Care Programs.
  • Previous YMCA or non-profit experience preferred.
  • Must assume responsibility for accuracy and timeliness of work; goal oriented
  • Willingness to work non-traditional schedules as needed to meet deadlines
  • Able to multi-task, to take direction and work well with others. Excellent organizational & planning skills required.
  • Computer aptitude and/or proficiency, and have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to manage conflict and resolve issues in a respectful and calm manner.
  • Experience in, or ability to relate to diverse groups of people regardless of age, race, economic status, religion, or cultural differences.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Oversees daily program operations, ensuring that staff adhere to and exceed all state, local, and Y health and safety regulations. Assures compliance with federal, state and local regulations as they relate to program areas, including OCFS, DSS, NYS Health Dept. and ADA accommodations where appropriate. Ensures that YMCA program standards and safety procedures are met.
  • Manages, directs and coordinates the Before and After School Enrichment (BASE) child care programs (6), Summer Day Camp - Adventure and Young Explorer Camp programs, and Batavia Summer Recreation programs (4). Ensures high quality programs and establishes new program activities. Expands program within the community in accordance with branch strategic and operating plans.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, mentors and directs staff. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals (staff team size: 30-45 part-time employees).
  • Proactively identify opportunities to enhance employee development and staff retention; monitor and approve weekly schedules and payroll.
  • Completes required annual OCFS training requirements (15 hours of annual training).
  • 30% travel (in Genesee County) to local child care sites for inspections, supply delivery, supervision, training and oversight.
  • Develop, implement, and promote new programs. Expand and enhance current programs to support engagement, and retention in accordance with strategic plans for assigned locations.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information pertaining to all assigned program areas; Support social media efforts to promote assigned programs.
  • Successfully train staff in the use of coaching and guidance techniques.
  • Seeks, administers, tracks and reports on grant funding.
  • Assist in YMCA fundraising activities, special events, marketing and distribution of program information where applicable.
  • Demonstrate effective listening and compassion toward people in all interactions with the purpose of delivering the mission of the YMCA.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with state child care licensing agency, school administration, family groups and other organizations related to assigned programs. Responds to all agency, family and community inquiries and complaints.
  • Orders supplies and snacks as needed to support curriculum, staff and HEPA needs.
  • Leads childcare and rec registration process & maintain proper records/department files.
  • Compiles program statistics, monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program and performs regular audits of program sites.
  • Develops, manages and controls all budgets related to the position. Ensures program operates within budget and that program fees are collected. Responsible for billing Department of Social Services monthly.
  • Risk Management; Trains staff teams on how to handle emergencies at all assigned locations, which include use of first aid kits, completing accident reports and following the association emergency action plan.
  • Hands-on work ; regularly visits programs and actively engages with program participants. Serves as a substitute when child care staff are unable to report or in the event of staff vacancies.
    • Typical work week will consist of 40 hours per week. Available on-call during program hours (6:30am-9:00am and 2:00pm-6:00pm during school year, 7am-6:00pm during summer) with the opportunity to flex work week to accommodate on-call needs.
  • Attend branch and Association required trainings and meetings.
  • Serves as an active member of the branch leadership team. Performs other duties as needed to support branch operations as deemed necessary.

  • Current CPR and First Aid certification or become certified within 30 days of hire
  • Required to complete the following online trainings upon hire: Y-USA Before & After School Program, Child Abuse Prevention, Sexual Harassment, New Employee Orientation
  • OCFS Health & Safety Director Training within 60 days of hire
