BASIC POSITION FUNCTION
Under the supervision of the Child Development Administrator, supervises child care personnel and oversees child care programs at the elementary schools; assists the Child Development Administrator administer the District-wide child care program and performs other related duties as required.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
Positions in this class are established to supervise and administer child care services at the elementary schools. Incumbents perform tasks with initiative and independent judgment within a limited number of standardized procedures. Work in this class is distinguished from that of a Child Care Leader by the administrative, managerial and supervisory responsibilities for child care services at multiple sites.
Examples Of Essential Duties:
* Provides direct supervision of child care personnel at eight to ten elementary schools;
* Visits Child Care Centers frequently to observe program activities; offers ideas for enriching activities; facilitates sharing of ideas between child care personnel;
* Trains new child care leaders and assistants;
* Helps staff maintain program standards;
* Helps staff meet the special needs of children;
* Writes performance evaluations for child care personnel;
* Monitors and signs monthly time sheets, yearly CD Permit renewals, Basic First Aid & CPR Certificates;
* Keeps current on significant student health care needs;
* Coordinates center staffing, payroll, and time-off requests;
* Plans and facilitates monthly staff meetings and new staff orientations;
* Monitors and maintains student:staff ratios;
* Collaboratively updates policy and procedures in Child Care Staff and Parent manuals;
* Keeps abreast of child development trends, policies, and regulations and interface and update staff, as needed;
* Covers shifts at the centers to support center staff in accomplishing their duties or when substitutes are unavailable;
* Establishes and maintains files related to the centers;
* Interprets policies and procedures for center staff and parents;
* Responds to parent concerns;
* Monitors expenditures and enrollment; recommends changes in staff schedules;
* Facilitates articulation with the elementary school program;
* Assists the Child Development Administrator in hiring staff, resolving personnel issues and staff development;
* Coordinates supervision of the District-wide program with the other Child Care Supervisor in the absence of the Child Development Administrator, including summer, winter and spring breaks;
* Coordinates and implements field trip and offsite excursions as well as summer camp planning;
* Performs related duties as required.
Typical Qualifications:
Experience:
Three years of work experience in school-age child care or after-school recreation plus one year of work experience as a supervisor, or three years of supervisory experience in pre-school or school-age child care.
Education:
BA in Child Development or related field, including 12 units in child development, early childhood education, recreation, elementary school curriculum and/or other courses relevant to school-age child care; or 60 units of college-level training, including 24 units in child development, early childhood education, recreation, elementary school curriculum and/or other courses relevant to school-age child care. A minimum of six units in supervision of child care programs must be completed within the first year of employment in this classification.
