The CDL is a nationally accredited laboratory school providing care and education to children 6 weeks to 5 years of age as well as field experience for college students pursuing the early childhood field. Child Development Specialists work as part of a co-teaching team within the CDL's mixed-age infant/toddler or preschool classrooms. This is a year-round position.General responsibilities include but are not limited to
- Plan and implement curriculum and activities aligned with NAEYC accreditation standards and the Illinois Early Learning and Development Guidelines/Standards
- Ensure a safe, nurturing learning environment for all children indoors and outdoors
- Assess needs of individual children and offer appropriate support to families
- Track the developmental progress of children using individual child portfolios
- Supervise and train college students in the laboratory school
Requirements
- Associate degree in child development, early childhood education, or a related field (submission of transcript copy required)
- Eligibility for Gateways ECE Credential Level 4 (or commitment to a professional development plan to achieve the ECE Credential Level 4 within 12 months of employment at CDL)
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in child development, early childhood education, or related field
- Eligibility for Gateways ECE credential Level 5
- 2 or more years' early childhood classroom experience
- Direct experience developing and implementing curriculum for young children
- Experience using the Project Approach
- Experience creating developmental portfolios
- Experience supervising student or volunteer assistants
- Demonstrated experience in family involvement activities
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs.
