Job Title: Child Nutrition Assistant Manager Wage/Hour Status: Non-exempt

Reports to: Campus Child Nutrition Manager Pay Grade: Auxiliary 2 - ES Dept./School: Child Nutrition/Assigned Campus Date Revised: 07/01/2022

Primary Purpose:

Assist manager in all areas of food service operations including ordering and control of inventory; maintaining security and accountability of funds, and ensuring that production standards are met. Prepare and serve appropriate quantities of food to meet menu requirements. Maintain high standards of quality in food production, sanitation, and safety practices.

Education/Certification:

None specified

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Working knowledge of methods, materials, equipment, and appliances used in food preparation.

Knowledge of personal computer for cashiering preferred.

Ability to operate large and small kitchen equipment and tools.

Ability to perform basic arithmetic and inventory operations.

Ability to work as a member of a team.

Ability to interact with students and campus staff.

Experience:

Two years' related work experience with some supervisory experience preferred.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Food Preparation and ServingPrepare quality food according to a planned menu of tested, uniform recipes.

Serve food according to meal schedules, departmental policies, and procedures.

Assist in determining proper amount of food items to prepare for students.

Practice and promote portion control and proper use of leftovers.

Supervise storage and handling of food items and supplies. Maintain a clean and organized storage area.

Assist in catering special events when required.

Safety and SanitationOperate and clean tools and equipment according to prescribed safety standards.

Follow established procedures to meet high standards of cleanliness, health, security and safety. Keep garbage collection containers and areas neat and sanitary.

Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.

Maintain personal appearance and hygiene.

OtherHandle and record cashier functions accurately.

Maintain daily food preparation records.

Assist manager in ensuring that appropriate quantities of food and supplies are available through daily orders and periodic inventories.

Assist manager in conducting annual physical equipment and supplies inventory.

Promote teamwork and positive interaction with fellow staff members.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Assist manager in coordinating other workers' activities to ensure production standards.

Equipment Used:

Large and small kitchen equipment and tools including electric slicer, mixer, pressure steamer, deep-fat fryer, sharp cutting tools, oven, dishwasher, and food and utility cart.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Continual standing, walking, pushing, and pulling; frequent stooping, bending, and kneeling; moderate lifting and carrying (up to 40 pounds); moderate exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures.
