The Nutritionist participates as a member of an interdisciplinary team of qualified professionals providing early childhood intervention and family support resources to children birth through age five (5) with or at risk for disabilities and their families. The Nutritionist has specific responsibility for providing comprehensive nutritional and dietary assessments and evaluations for children with complex diagnoses and chronic conditions, including but not limited to prematurity, neurological impairments, cerebral palsy, metabolic disorders, failure to thrive, Down syndrome, developmentaldisabilities, and feeding/swallowing disorders. The nutritionist will also be responsible for providing nutritional services to enrolled children and their care givers developing nutritional and dietary care plans in order to attain desired outcomes; work directly with caregivers of children, in need of nutritional support and dietary care in order to promote safe feeding and healthy development; and provide consultation and technical assistance to other staff and community paraprofessionals, professionals and agencies. The nutritionist also participates in activities to support FIPP's mission of providing a broad range of family-centered resources to children. By participating in research, program evaluation, training and other activities related to children's nutritional growth and development and/or caregivers' abilities to support their children's growth and development in the context of healthy families, the nutritionist has the ability to fully maximize the resources available to families so that children can be supported in their home community.

About the Family, Infant and Preschool Program (FIPP):
The Family, Infant and Preschool Program (FIPP) is a community-based component of the J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center. FIPP is an early childhood intervention and family support program that has been producing research and providing supports and services in western North Carolina since 1972. The overall mission of the program is to (1) promote optimal health and development of young children, especially those with or at risk for disabilities, through supporting and strengthening families in ways that enhance their growth and well-being; and (2) promote the dissemination of research, resources and professional development opportunities to improve the delivery of services to families and children.

* Knowledge of nutritional theories and practices.
Management Preferences:
* The Nutritionist must be knowledgeable about principles of normal and therapeutic nutrition for young children birth through 5 years of age, and their families as well as assessment, intervention, and interpretation of data and medical information, family systems theories, and family centered practice.
* The Nutritionist must be skilled in assisting families and other care providers in identifying strengths, goals, resources and individualized plans of action.
* The Nutritionist must have the ability to develop FIPP resources and set priorities based on the organizational mission and principles, policies and procedures.
* The must also be knowledgeable of community systems, resources, key players, and strategies to build community capacity.
* Skill is needed in balancing the available resources at FIPP and JIRDC and the needs and resources of children and families in the community. Judgment is necessary in balancing the multifaceted circumstances surrounding referrals to FIPP. The nutritionist must be able to work collaboratively with numerous FIPP staff and diverse community and professional contacts.

Master's degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, or Nutrition from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of related experience and holding the credential of Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD or (RDN) with the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Bachelor's degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, or Nutrition from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of related experience and holding the credential of Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD or RDN) with the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Trainee Appointment
If there are no qualified candidates remaining in the applicant pool who meet the minimum Education and Experience or Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required for the position, the agency may consider for this position, a trainee who does not meet the minimum requirements.
Minimum Requirement for Trainee Appointment - Bachelor's or master's degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, or Nutrition from an appropriately accredited institution and holding the credential of Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD or (RDN) with the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Trainee Appointment may be considered at a salary ranging from $50,000.00 - $53,845.00 depending on education and experience.
Degrees must be from appropriately accredited colleges or universities.
