He or she must have a minimum of one year experience with young children.The Child Development Counselor must also have:
  • The ability to communicate effectively with parents, children, staff, and director.
  • The ability to carry out engaging activities each day
  • The ability to interact with children in a positive manner
Principal Activities
  • Notify the Child Development leader in the event of an absence
  • Attend organized staff meetings
  • Together with other child development staff, create activities to keep children active and engaged.
  • Help maintain cleanliness and in order in the room
  • Participate in cleaning the room and minimal cleaning in the bathroom
  • Interact with other children while on the playground
  • The Effectiveness of this position can be evidenced by:
  • An orderly classroom in which children are happy and productive
  • Parental satisfaction as evidenced in comments to our membership team or executive director
  • Quality child care for all YMCA children
  • A rewarding experience for the YMCA employee.
