Job Description:

Incumbent is responsible for providing backup support to the supervisor for all childcare facility operations to ensure that children have a safe and fun environment to learn and socialize with others; responsibilities will include hiring qualified child care staff, setting budgets for toys and supplies and proactively communicating with parents to accommodate their child's needs.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop a curriculum and program, and work closely with the center's teachers and staff, creating learning plans or programs to meet state and federal requirements and parent's expectations.
  • Oversee staff management including recruit, interview, hire and train staff, making sure that all background and fingerprint checks have been conducted.
  • Manage facility to ensure that the facility is safe and well-stocked; including checking that safety equipment is available and working, removing hazards and ensuring the facility is always clean and orderly.
  • Responsible to create, monitor, and manage all budgetary matters related to purchasing supplies, staffing and compensation, equipment, etc., within the parameters of the grant funding.
  • Works with our Communications department to market the facility: There is much competition between daycare facilities, so the Child Care Director must have a marketing plan to promote awareness of the facility and its services.
  • Assists with phases of developing and implementing UAII's Child Development Program.
  • Provides supervision and direction for educators, substitutes, and volunteers in assigned classroom.
  • Serves as a backup to the Childcare Director while they are out of office.
  • Meets with parents and teachers to keep parents up-to-date on their child's development and progress, including discussing ways to address any learning or behavioral issues.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience)

  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE), or related field
  • Four (4) years of experience working in ECE and/or administering a childcare program.
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification
  • A combination of experience, education, and training may substitute for degree requirements on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications (Education & Experience)

  • Master's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
  • Six (6) years of experience working in ECE and/or administering a childcare program.
  • Experience working with the American Indian/Alaskan Native community.
  • Experience working with nonprofit organizations, community groups, and performance-based government contracts.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act (PL93-638).
  • Knowledge of Title V of the Indian Health Care Improvement Act (PL 94-437).
  • Knowledge of the Affordable Care Act (PL 111-148).
  • Strong understanding and sensitivity to American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) cultures and lifestyles, and work effectively with AI/AN population.
  • Effective oral and written communications skills with sensitivity to lifestyles of targeted participants.
  • Has solid leadership skills to keep staff motivated and resolve conflicts. Skills in operating personal computer using a variety of computer software (Microsoft Office, Adobe, Microsoft Teams, Zoom).
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of client and personnel information, and comply with all applicable federal and state privacy laws, as well as UAII policy (HIPAA, HITECH, etc.).
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with management, coworkers, and outside contacts.
  • Ability to keep up with a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to learn and apply program/agency operating policies and procedures.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks concurrently and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to interact with various people on various, and at times, complex issues.
  • Ability to work independently as well as with teams.

  • Eligibility to work in the US.

  • Negative TB test result (annual requirement).
  • Proof of vaccination against the flu (annual requirement).
  • Proof of full vaccination against COVID, including a Booster.
  • Valid CA driver's license, if driving for the company and/or a requirement of the position.
  • Maintain auto insurance coverage, if driving for the company.
