Job Description:
The Central Sterile Technician will be trained and responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, sterilization, and proper functioning of medical equipment, instrument, and supplies. Expertise will be required in infection control practices and adherence to stringent protocols with a crucial role in maintaining a safe and hygienic environment. The Supply Technician will play a vital role in ensuring the efficient and effective management of supplies and inventory in a routine & post-pandemic healthcare setting. The supply technician collaborates with various departments, vendors, and stakeholders to maintain adequate stock levels while adhering to budgetary constraints. ESSENTIAL DUTIES and/or RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
  • Perform thorough cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of medical equipment, instruments, and supplies using appropriate techniques and equipment according to established protocols and guidelines.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory levels of sterile supplies, ensuring an adequate supply is readily available to support healthcare operations.
  • Inspect, assemble, and disassemble medical equipment, identifying any defects or malfunctions and reporting them for repair or replacement as needed.
  • Adhere to infection control policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of sterilization processes, equipment maintenance, and inventory management.
  • Perform routine quality assurance checks to validate the effectiveness of sterilization processes and maintain high standards of cleanliness and safety.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team, including Podiatry Nurse to provide sterile equipment and supplies as required, ensuring timely and efficient support.
  • Stay updated on advancements in sterilization techniques and infection control practices.
  • Identify and report potential hazards or safety issues related to equipment, supplies, or procedures.
  • Manage supplies, research, evaluate, and select appropriate suppliers/vendors for medical supplies, equipment, and related products.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records
  • Receive, inspect, and organize incoming supplies, ensuring proper storage and handling.
  • Perform regular inventory counts, monitor stock levels, and initiate replenishment order to prevent stock shortages or excess.
  • Coordinate the distribution of supplies to various departments, ensuring timely and accurate delivery.
  • Maintain a well-organized supply room to facilitate efficient retrieval and restocking
  • Stay updated with regulatory guidelines and best practices related to supply management, infection control, and safety protocols.
  • Obtain accurate vital signs
  • Assist patients with medication box set-up.
  • Deliver medical supplies and medications to patients homes.
  • Manage a patient case load.
  • Perform routine home visits.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and within the certification guidelines
  • Crosstrain with the Healthcare Support Assistant as needed
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily.   • Completion of a Central Sterile Processing program is preferred
  • Must have High school diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D.)
  • Experience working in a healthcare setting is preferred
  • Prefer experience with public health
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, and/or REGISTRATIONS:
  • Must be a Certified Medication Aide or LPN
  • Valid driver's license and be insurable
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and/or ABILITIES:
  • Strong knowledge of medical supplies, equipment, and inventory management principals
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail including to ensure documentation, inventory management, and adherence to protocols
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of infection control and safety protocols
  • Knowledge of sterilization methods, equipment, and supplies will be provided
  • Adaptation to changing priorities and demands.
  • Proven ability to work as a team member is required

  • Physical ability to lift and move heavy objects including prolonged standing, bending, and reaching
  • Transporting patients to scheduled appointments may be required on assisting other job duties
