The St. Louis Public Library makes a considered effort to grow and mentor staff to move within the system as they develop the necessary skills to help community members.In this role, you will:
  • Assist customers with library card registration and checking out and returning materials.
  • Assist in preparation, delivery, and receipt of Library materials; receive payment from customers.
  • Greets customers upon entering the Library facility.
  • Assist in opening and closing the location.
  • Attends staff development opportunities.
You will need to be:
  • Friendly, patient, and able to multitask while assisting customers.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to work with competing tasks and priorities.
  • Flexible, positive, and able to exercise sound independent judgment.
  • Enthusiasm about the mission of public libraries.
You will need to have:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with previous customer service experience.
  • Strong communication and organization skills.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • The ability to learn how to use the following software:
    • Google Workspace (Google Docs, Sheets, Gmail)
    • Polaris Leap (Integrated Library Software)

Hours for this position are: Monday & Tuesday 8:30 am - 5:30 pm, Wednesday & Thursday 11:00 am - 8:00 pm, alternating Friday & Saturday 8:00/8:30 am - 5:00 pm. One Sunday every three weeks from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Hours are subject to change.
