Job Summary Provides policy, outreach and communications support on behalf of the City Manager's Office for a Dallas City Council member in his or her role as the representative to the district, and as a member of the Council. Job Description Overview The City Council Liaison provides and performs policy and legislative outreach and communications on behalf of the City Manager's Office and various councilmembers. Works with specific councilmen to respond to inquiries from constituents. Essential Functions 1 Serves as a professional liaison between the general public, council, and the City Manager's Office; assists residents navigating through city services and works to build better working relationships between council and constituents. 2 Assists, supports, and coordinates council man or woman's agenda, schedule, and other logistics; works to foster and implement new ideas, policies, or initiatives. 3 Develops and analyzes various policies and legislation; prepares summaries, conducts research, and identifies supporting data and metrics for a specific Councilmember. 4 Communicates and briefs Councilmember on all community and media issues relating to the district and surrounding area; ensure the councilmember is knowledgeable of all items on all committee meeting agendas, council briefings, and council agendas. 5 Prepares, drafts, and edits speeches, communications, and talking points; proofreads and prepares informational material as needed. 6 Attend community meeting and other ceremonial functions to make presentations on behalf of Councilmember; reviews, evaluates, and interprets all written correspondence on behalf of Councilmember. 7 Oversees the application and submission process of the Councilmember's board and commission nominations. 8 Aids and supports various constituent services as needed 9 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned. Knowledge and Skills 1 Knowledge of correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation. 2 Knowledge of public administration. 3 Knowledge of council and related logistics. 4 Ability to use office machines including, copier, fax machine. 5 Ability to coordinate meetings, travel, and detailed schedules. 6 Ability to write, clear and accurate reports. 7 Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public and other city employees. 8 Ability to handle difficult and unusual situations. 9 Ability to provide exceptional customer service and interact successfully with constituents. 10 Communicating effectively verbally and in writing. 11 Establishing and maintaining strong working relationships. Experience 4 years of experience in a municipal setting preferably with experience working with council. Licenses and Certifications None Education Bachelor's Degree in Political Science, Public Administration, or government. Salary Range $60,538.39 - $75,672.99 The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
