Job Description:
The City of Springfield seeks a dynamic leader and skilled problem-solver, who can confidently execute the vision of the City Council, to serve as its next City Manager. The ideal candidate is someone who can step up and assist in formulating a vision for the community; build and maintain strong community relationships; and communicate clearly and concisely with staff, community partners, and residents. They will be an advocate and a champion for the City, willing to be visible, meet the public, and engage staff at all levels of the organization. The chosen candidate will have knowledge of collective bargaining and how to build and maintain relationships with those bargaining units. They will be able to delegate, collaborate, and empower the staff to do their jobs and bring solutions to an issue. Knowledge of strategic initiatives that will assist in the City's growth and the ability to deliver new jobs for the community are vital for the next City Manager. The next City Manager will also be able to work with regional partners and other governing agencies to benefit the City.POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTSA bachelor's degree in public administration, business administration, or a related discipline, plus ten (10) years of responsible professional managerial work experience, is required. A master's degree in public administration, business administration, or related discipline, plus seven (7) years of responsible professional managerial work experience, will also be considered. The City Manager shall be chosen by the City Council based on executive, leadership, and administrative qualifications with special preference to experience in and knowledge of municipal administration or similar organizations with elected legislative boards or commissions. Must establish residency within City limits within six months of employment and maintain a City residency throughout appointment.LOCATIONLocated in scenic southwest Missouri, the City of Springfield is known as the Queen City of the Ozarks and serves as the hub of the region. Springfield spans approximately 82 square miles in Greene County and is the third largest city in the state. The Springfield Metro Area has a population of 487,061, with 170,188 within the City limits.
