The City of Pekin, Illinois seeks a Public Works Director to lead and direct in a highly responsible executive staff-level position by providing the Department of Public Works with leadership and strategic direction. The Public Works Director provides leadership to a team of 5 managers and over 50 field staff. The work is performed under the direction of the City Manager.Divisions of Public Works:

- RFP for solid waste hauler
- Multi-year capital improvement plan
Responsibilities include:
- Planning, organizing, prioritizing, and providing leadership and directives regarding the broad scope of activities of the department;
- Assuring total operational effectiveness;
- Working collaboratively with public works employees, other city employees, civic leaders and other community stakeholders;
- Serving as a principal advisor to the City Manager, and the other City officials regarding public works activities;
- Interpreting and enforcing City Manager directives and administrative policies;
- Developing long-range strategic plans for department policies and programs;
- Outlining program objectives and working with appropriate staff to implement plans;
- Overseeing the preparation and implementation of plans for Public Works projects;
- Determining resource needs and financing requests;
- Overseeing department budgetary administration;
- Preparing and presenting the annual department budget;
- Implementing the City's Capital Improvement Program and Budget;
- Other duties as assigned
