Job SummaryThe primary focus of this position is the adjudication of all death, disability, and medical claims.Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Adjudicates Traditional Life, Variable Life, and Annuity death claims.
- Receives claims calls from customers and resolves inquiries over the phone and in writing.
- Advocates the use of the Concierge Account for payment to beneficiaries whenever it is appropriate.
- Works with other areas of the Company in the development of new products and/or amendment of existing products, advocates for the needs of the Department and insuring that new products and amendments appropriately address the need to accurately and quickly adjudicate claims.
- Participates in projects as required by management.
- Provides training to new hires and provides training/cross-training to coworkers.
- Recommends and assists in implementing procedural changes to enhance profitability and productivity.
- Perform other duties as assigned

- Possesses strong adaptability skills to adjust to a fast paced, changing work environment and must be resilient when facing frustration or adversity. Must demonstrate effective time management skills to prioritize individual and Department work assignments.
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and helps peers and work effectively with a varied range of contacts both inside and outside the Company. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and tact to deal effectively with the bereaved and disabled.
- Skill in conducting technical research which crosses multiple areas of the Company regarding procedures or contracts.
- Thorough knowledge of SEC regulations and tax laws governing Variable processing of annuities and claims as well as laws governing claim issues involving divorce, contestability, etc.
- Exercises sound judgment when dealing with customers who voice a complaint, appeal or request exception handling of their claims. Demonstrates responsibility by follow-up on problems and issues.
- Understanding of corporate organization as a whole as a high degree of interaction is required among all departments including Actuarial, Underwriting, Law, Agents, Financial, and Administrative Services.
- Maintains Production Level and Quality Level as dictated by departmental guidelines. Overtime required in order to meet Corporate, Unit, State, and SEC deadlines for adjudication of claims.
- Pursues ICA Claims designation and continuing education courses such as LOMA, ICA, NASD preferred, not required.
