The Claims Intern provides support to Claims Leadership on reporting project work as assigned. This is an internship position with the intent of exposing the employee to claims data, business intelligence reporting, data from internal and external sources in developing their skill set through experiential learning. Salary Grade (6) 18.78 - 23.47 - 28.16 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Performs research on data reporting and analysis to identify trends, opportunities and strategic direction of current Vendor Programs. Shadows Claims Leadership to develop an understanding of Claims data from internal and external sources along with understanding what occurs on the different claim processes. Review and analyze workflows throughout the Claims department to identify potential improvement utilizing the DMAIC or similar process improvement models. Completes project work as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position has no supervisory responsibility. Additionally, this person should be committed to transforming data into readable, goal-oriented reports that drive innovation and growth. The final candidate should possess the ability to develop, implement, and maintain leading-edge analytics systems, identifying trends and opportunities, for improvement through analysis of complex datasets. The ability to evaluate internal systems for efficiency, problems, and inaccuracies. The ability to work directly with Sr. Leadership and department Managers. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Analytical skills required to complete and analyze data into meaningful conclusions Strong attention to detail and the unbiased ability to interpret various sets of data Ability to collect and interpreting data Interpersonal Skills Enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in Actuarial Science, Data Analytics, Mathematics or related field of study Intermediate computer skills including familiarity with spreadsheets and databases Exposure to a statistical programming language such as R, Python, and/or SAS is a plus Strong Communication Skills Interpersonal Skills LANGUAGE SKILLS Able to effectively communicate with various audiences, including Claims, actuaries, product analysts, underwriters, IT staff, and management. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Advanced skills are required including coursework in calculus, linear algebra and probability/statistics. REASONING ABILITY Ability to understand data, mathematics, actuarial concepts and apply logic to solve complex problems.
