Our claims analytics team is seeking a strategic, collaborative and dynamic Director of Data & Analytics to join our growing team in our Worcester, MA office. The ideal candidate will be highly consultative and possess a strategic mindset, with an affinity for data & analytics.

We will consider a 100% remote arrangement, but must be able to travel to our Worcester location a few times per month as needed.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Director, Data & Analytics will direct a team that uses claims data to provide insight into business performance and suggest areas and methods of improving operations. Analysis will span multiple business segments and may span multiple lines of business across the company. Responsibilities include analyzing variances in performance compared to plan, identifying and communicating potential areas for improvement within Claims or other functions, training and developing analysts across the Claims Analytics team, and building out new analytic capabilities in order to provide quicker and more comprehensive insights. The Director, Data & Analytics will be responsible for managing one or more analysts.

This is a full-time, exempt role.

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:

  • Diagnose claim-related drivers of the company's financial results, and any underlying trends that may be impacting them (including both internal and external changes impacting frequency and severity).
  • Analyze claims data and effectively communicate conclusions in writing and verbally to internal partners (claims, actuarial, finance, state management, underwriting, etc.).
  • Perform liaison function between claims and other functions at the company. Lead meetings and provide consulting with internal and external customers to discuss results of analysis.
  • Leverage industry knowledge, understanding of current business and economic trends, and internal data expertise to provide solutions to complex business questions.
  • Lead the development or enhancement of reporting and tools for multiple lines of business. Where appropriate, provide automated and process solutions to remedy operational inefficiencies. Educate other employees on Hanover's data.
  • Respond to urgent/timely requests and produce routine and ad hoc information in a rapid and dynamic turnaround climate; delegate or execute as necessary.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of programs and processes that drive Claim's data and reporting strategy.
  • Perform cost-benefit analyses on potential initiatives.
  • Assist in development of key performance indicators for new initiatives and communication of those results.
  • Establish and implement governance practices that ensure data integrity and accuracy of all data utilized.
  • Provide coaching to team on standard practices and development of problem-solving techniques. Perform review of team work output.

WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY:

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in a relevant technical field (math, finance, actuarial science, or analytics preferred).
  • 5-8+ years of experience in a related field.
  • Expert knowledge of Excel and intermediate knowledge of SQL.
  • Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills, including data visualization. Ability to synthesize information into storylines, themes, and insights and concisely present and communicate complex information to a variety of audiences to inform discussions and decision making.
  • Effective problem solver who anticipates issues and seeks out and analyzes information collaboratively to propose solutions. Takes ownership for a successful resolution.
  • Strong people management skills; effective at coaching and motivating staff. Serves as a role model in building effective relationships.
  • Strong organizational time and project management skills. Ability to multi-task on multiple critical deliverables.
  • Easily adapts to new or changing situations, requirements, or priorities.
  • Has understanding of business unit and corporate strategic direction and general knowledge of corporate/business unit interdependencies.
