By incorporating claims processing responsibilities into the Claims Safety Manager role, the position becomes even more integral to the organization's operational efficiency and financial health. This expanded role not only focuses on preventing workplace incidents through proactive safety measures but also ensures that when incidents occur, they are managed efficiently, compassionately, and in a manner that minimizes impact on both the employee and the organization. The Claims Safety Manager becomes a key figure in maintaining a safe work environment, supporting affected employees through the claims process, and managing the financial and legal aspects of workplace incidents.

Responsibilities

Claims Processing and Coordination:

  • Oversee the process of receiving, reviewing, and managing claims related to workplace incidents and injuries (auto, property, workers comp, etc.).
  • Coordinate with insurance providers, healthcare professionals, and legal counsel as necessary to ensure claims are processed efficiently and in accordance with policy terms and legal requirements.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of incidents to support claims processing and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Liaison with External Parties:

  • Act as the primary point of contact between employees, management, and external parties (insurance companies, medical personnel, legal teams) regarding workplace injuries and claims.
  • Negotiate with insurance carriers to achieve fair and timely resolution of claims.
  • Work closely with the human resources department to manage workers' compensation claims, including return-to-work programs.

Data Analysis and Reporting for Claims:

  • Analyze claims data to identify trends, areas of high risk, and potential for cost savings.
  • Report on the status of ongoing claims, including financial implications and progress towards resolution.
  • Use claims data to inform risk assessment, safety training, and preventive measures, aiming to reduce the frequency and severity of workplace incidents.

Regulatory Compliance and Documentation:

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations regarding workplace safety and workers' compensation.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of claims, treatments, and investigations to comply with regulatory requirements and support audit processes.
  • Stay informed about changes in legislation affecting workers' compensation, workplace safety, and insurance claims, and adjust company policies and practices accordingly.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of workers' compensation laws and experience dealing with insurance claims, including working with OSHA, DOT, EPA, etc.
  • Experience in negotiating and managing claims with insurance carriers.
  • Ability to manage sensitive information with confidentiality and discretion.
