Job Description:
All Kids Academy Head Start is seeking on-call Classroom Substitutes. Join our team in the mission to close the achievement gap by providing quality school readiness programs and comprehensive services to children, families, and communities in East County.SUMMARY: Classroom Substitutes fill in for staff absences/vacancies on an on-call basis. Assist in the instruction of preschool-age children and/or infants and toddlers. Create a classroom environment favorable to learning and personal growth in compliance with agency standards and abilities of children. Responsible for assistance in the agency active supervision processes in addition to the academic, social-emotional growth and development of all children in his/her care.The substitute position offers flexibility to meet your schedule. As a substitute, you will only be called on days and times that you are available.BENEFITS:

MINIMUM EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS
  • 12 semester units of Early Childhood Education or Child Development courses
Substitutes with 3 semester units of infant/toddler development may be assigned to infant/toddler classrooms.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Support a safe, healthy, clean, and inviting learning environment for children;
  • Support the social and emotional development of children;
  • Support the implementation of a developmentally appropriate curriculum for children;
  • Supervise children both indoors and outdoors at all times, following Active Supervision protocol;
  • Provide support to different areas such as classroom, playground, field trips, and during nurturing activities and nutrition breaks;
  • Support the appropriate instruction and activities for all children, including children with special needs;
  • Assist with the setup and cleanup of classrooms daily and monthly for environment changes;
  • Assist with diapering, toileting/training, hand washing, tooth brushing, eating, napping, and transitioning between activities, ensuring they are carried out in a manner that is prompt, hygienic, and consistent with regulations and good child development practices.
  • Organize and/or support activities designed to promote indoor and outdoor physical, mental and social development such as games, arts and crafts, music, storytelling, and field trips;
  • Demonstrate cultural competency and respect for the child's background by incorporating the cultural, linguistic and familial values and beliefs into the childcare program and lesson plans;
  • Maintain a cooperative attitude and work effectively with other staff, volunteers, and parents to promote teamwork, maintaining professionalism and continuously sustaining a positive environment;
  • Develop a positive relationship with each child and promote the development of self-esteem and self-discipline;
  • Attend meetings and/or workshops for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform teaching functions and/or maintain professional knowledge;
  • Be available on an on-call basis for assignments at any AKA Head Start site.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Good manual dexterity of hands and fingers to demonstrate activities or run instructional equipment;
  • Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods;
  • Must be able to reach overhead as well above the shoulders and horizontally;
  • Requires repetitive bending at the waist, as well as kneeling, stooping, crouching to assist children;
  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information, make presentations, hear in a noisy environment and locate the sources of a sound for health and safety;
  • Must have excellent speaking and hearing ability;
  • Must be able to input data using a computer terminal keyboard;
  • Seeing to read a variety of materials and monitor children's activities is essential;
  • Walk for extended periods of time;
  • Handle or feel with fingers, reach with hands and climb or balance, or crawl;
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus; and
  • Move, push, pull up to 40 pounds while moving and holding children.
