Qualifications Required:
* Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field (Master's degree preferred)
* Connecticut State Certification as a Special Education Teacher
* Strong understanding of various disabilities and their impact on learning
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Patience, flexibility, and a passion for working with children with diverse learning needs
* Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate
Reports to: Elementary School Principal
Job Goal
* To create supportive and inclusive learning environment for students with diverse learning needs
* To develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) to address students' unique challenges and provide them with the necessary support to succeed academically, socially, emotionally, and behaviorally
Performance Responsibilities:
* Individualized Education Plans (IEPs):
* Collaborate with parents, general education teachers, and other specialists to assess students' needs and develop personalized IEPs.
* Implement IEP goals and objectives to address students' academic, social, emotional and behavioral goals.
* Regularly review and update IEPs based on students' progress and evolving needs.
* Instruction and Differentiation:
* Adapt and modify curriculum materials to meet the individual needs of students with disabilities.
* Provide specialized instruction in small groups or one-on-one settings to ensure optimal learning experiences.
* Utilize a variety of teaching strategies and resources to accommodate diverse learning styles.
* Classroom Management:
* Establish a positive and inclusive classroom culture that promotes a sense of belonging for all students.
* Implement behavior management strategies and interventions to address challenging behaviors and promote a positive learning environment.
* Collaboration:
* Work collaboratively with general education teachers, support staff, and administrators to foster a team approach to student success.
* Participate in team meetings, parent conferences, and professional development opportunities to enhance collaboration and communication.
* Assessment and Progress Monitoring:
* Conduct ongoing assessments to measure students' progress and adjust instructional strategies accordingly.
* Keep accurate and up-to-date records of students' academic and behavioral performance.
* Parent and Community Engagement:
* Communicate regularly with parents to provide updates on students' progress, discuss strategies for support at home, and address any concerns.
* Collaborate with community resources and organizations to enhance support for students with special needs.
* Professional Development:
* Stay informed about current trends, research, and best practices in special education.
* Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance knowledge and skills related to working with students with diverse learning needs.
Terms of Employment:
* As established by the contract Salary between the Weston Board of Education and the Weston Teachers Association.
