Job Duties
Oversees the end-to-end flow of appeals, from filing to decision release, ensuring compliance with USDOL and agency case-aging standards.
Strategically allocates resources to optimize the efficient assignment and scheduling of lower authority appeals for Appeals Examiners.
Leads daily operations in First Level Appeals, maintaining superior customer service and fostering clear communication with appeals staff, claimants, employers, attorneys, and visitors.
Manages work unit processes by interpreting and applying guidelines, conducting in-depth research, maintaining confidentiality, and supervising administrative staff.
Implements process improvements to streamline workflows, enhance accuracy, and reduce case processing times.
Promotes a culture of continuous improvement by identifying inefficiencies, applying data-driven solutions, and leveraging technology to optimize operations.
Supervises administrative staff to achieve maximum potential by providing comprehensive training, ongoing performance management, and opportunities for professional growth.
Minimum Qualifications
Proficient in training, evaluation, and computerized case management systems, with demonstrated ability to implement process improvement strategies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
Strong skills in customer service, analysis, organization, and communication (oral and written), alongside advanced proficiency in automated systems and office software.
Ability to plan and oversee workflow through a clerical process, interpret and apply regulations, make independent decisions based on established rules and regulations, and manage multiple priorities under time constraints.
Proven leadership in supervising, training, and mentoring staff, fostering professional growth, and ensuring compliance with organizational goals.
Additional Considerations
Experience providing administrative support, supervising staff, and working with strict deadlines.
Considerable experience at the supervisory or management level working in a court, business, federal or state agency, or office setting.
Ability to learn new computer systems and processes; acquire knowledge of legal issues arising under the VA Unemployment Compensation Act; adapt to shifting priorities; ensure close attention to details; exhibit a proactive attitude; and manage a substantial volume of cases/records.
