Job Description:

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is seeking an energetic and detail-oriented person to join the team at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute (CMHI) in the role of Clerk Specialist. This is a full-time position with a Monday-Friday, 2:30 p.m.- 11:00 p.m. schedule and opportunity for advancement, growth, and development. This is a 100% in-person position.

The Clerk Specialist is a professional who handles phone calls for possible admissions and customer inquiries, processes and completes admission referral inquiries, performs transcription, assists in duties of utilization review, compiles statistical data for supervisor, and files records. Responsibilities of the Clerk Specialist include various support tasks requiring strong communication skills and a high level of professional customer service throughout in-person and telephone interactions, especially with clients in difficult circumstances. This position requires a highly motivated and organized individual who enjoys variety in their daily duties and can adhere to confidentiality protocols. Someone with a strong personality who will be tactful and compassionate while navigating challenging conditions is ideal for this role.

CMHI provides active inpatient treatment to adults in need of acute psychiatric care. The facility offers several services including individualized treatment plans. Support for patients with special education needs to continue their education is provided, and individuals are encouraged to collaborate with staff members in formulating their own plan. Medication, group counseling, and activities therapies might be included as well. an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting nine months or thirty semester hours coursework in an accredited business school, college or university for each year of the required experience;

certification from the State of Iowa Administrative Assistant Certificate Program will substitute for six months of the required experience;

OR

employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes the equivalent of eighteen months of full time experience as a resident treatment worker or Clerk-Advanced.
