Summary

As a key member of the Client Acquisition Team, this position is responsible for assisting the firm in generating new business income, thereby directly contributing to the overall prosperity and growth of the firm. The Client Development Executive (CDE) helps drive new business opportunities through targeted approaches and coordinated cross-selling strategies. This is accomplished by facilitating, organizing, and executing the business development strategies in assigned territories to include leveraging attorney resources and helping attorneys drive business opportunities.

Location

This position can sit in our New York, Washington, D.C., Austin, or Palo Alto office.

Minimum Requirements:

* 8 years of leadership in financial services

* Undergraduate degree in Business, Sales, Finance, Science or Technology

* Strong understanding of the capital markets ecosystems and market participants

* Understanding of the fundamental tenets of public company governance and reporting

* Foundational knowledge of the legal and professional services sectors within the capital markets and public company ecosystem

* Demonstrated ability to build and grow relationships at the C Suite, board and investment banking level

* Excellent oral and written communication skills

* Ability to effectively manage competing priorities and work well in in a team of highly performing law firm partners

* Strong judgment and ability to make well-reasoned independent decisions

* Strategic awareness of business and commercial issues

* Self-motivated and independent, able to work with minimal supervision

* Project management skills, and aptitude for developing these skills

* Strong executive presence and ability to influence others

* Proactive with a disciplined sense of follow through and a high degree of attention to detail

* Hardworking and diligent with a keen understanding of client demands

* Demonstrated composure when dealing with difficult situations

* Invests in, nurtures, and builds a network of productive relationships

* Treats delicate or confidential issues with discretion

Preferred Requirements:

* 10 years of leadership in a business development/sales role, preferably from investment banking and/or capital markets/public company ecosystem with exposure to the life sciences and/or technology verticals

* JD and/or MBA - highly desirable

What would your day look like:

As a Client Development Executive - Capital Markets & Public Companies, you would work closely with our nationally ranked Capital Markets & Public Company Partners to drive DLA Piper's market-facing sales initiatives in this critical market. You would start the day by pursuing self- and group-generated ideas and pathways to connect internally and externally. You will assist in identifying new opportunities and will play a strategic role in expanding key client relationships. You will work in close collaboration with the firm's partners, other business development and marketing professionals. You will own core elements of the strategic plan for this important and rapidly growing practice, which has recently been infused with new energy and leadership. Metrics for success include both quantitative data and qualitative feedback from internal and external stakeholders.

Your primary focus will be to prioritize and drive new strategic clients and relationships with underwriters and issuers, raise the firm's profile with investment banks and public companies, and serve as a trusted advisor to DLA Piper attorneys and clients by building and leveraging your industry knowledge and relationships. You will join an elite team of former company and investment fund executives who are in similar roles and focused on developing other strategic sectors for the Firm.

Core responsibilities:

* Building and cultivating long term relationships with investment bankers, public company executives and boards, thought leaders, and other connectors to develop new client opportunities for the Capital Markets & Public Company Advisory practice.

* Collaborating with DLA Piper attorneys to drive new client acquisition and expansion of existing client relationships in both Capital Markets & Public Company Advisory Practice for DLA Piper in the US.

* Managing key client relationships and connecting clients across the DLA Piper platform for cross-collaborative opportunities globally.

* Acting as the point person for the group's Underwriter and Public Company Outreach Campaigns, and creating, nurturing, and maintaining the firm's network of relationships with investment banks, investors, C Suite executives, directors and other corporate decision-makers.

* Serving as an ambassador for DLA Piper at major capital markets and public company programs and events and helping craft and lead such events and sponsorships.

* Actively supporting and attending high-level client events, sponsorships, and educational programs to drive sales pipeline outcomes and increase ROI (e.g., CEO dinners, high-profile CLE programs/webinars, etc.).

* Creating actionable individual business development plans for a select group of partners.

* Partnering with other market-facing team members on increasing connectivity and cross-collaborating opportunities within the capital markets ecosystem.

Physical Demands

Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

The firm's expected hiring range for this position is $181,692 - $267,597 per year depending on the candidate's geographic market location.

The compensation offered for employment will also be dependent on other factors including the candidate's experience, skills, educational and professional background, and overall qualifications. We offer a comprehensive package of benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, and 401(k).
