PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITY:The CSS Job Trainee under the direct supervision of the Client Safety Services management team with guidance from the CSS Employment Specialist will learn the skills needed to provide a safe environment for staff, clients, volunteers, and other guests at St. Anthony Foundation (SAF). They will learn crisis intervention and conflict de-escalation. CSS staff participates in the implementation of SAF's safety and disaster preparedness programs. Client Safety Services staff must adhere to established policies and procedures and have excellent attendance and punctuality.MAJOR DUTIES:
- Monitors and anticipates potential safety and security problems, and attempts, by means of de-escalation techniques, to prevent or defuse them before they become critical.
- Intervenes as appropriate in crisis situations to ensure the safety of staff, clients, volunteers, and other visitors.
- Adheres to program protocols to ensure safety and consistency in service provision.
- Ensures clients, visitors, and staff are welcomed.
- Ensures clients, visitors and staff are treated with dignity and respect.
- Ensures questions, needs and concerns from clients, visitors and staff are appropriately addressed.
- Connects clients with SAF services including the Medical Clinic, Free Clothing Program, Resource Center, Chaplain Services, etc.
- Makes continuing rounds of assigned SAF administration office and program areas.
- Checks and secures SAF premises as instructed.
- Participates in emergency response and disaster preparedness trainings and drills.
- Attends and participates in relevant meetings: CSS staff, One Team, service group meetings, SAF-wide meetings, etc.
- Assists and works with all the members of CSS and other SAF programs in responding to the responsibilities and needs of the work unit.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Client Safety Services Managers, team Supervisors, and Employment Specialist.
- Adheres to the guidelines of the SAF Safety Program.

- Commitment to St. Anthony Foundation Statement of Values and a desire to work for a social service agency serving the poor.
- High school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent experience preferred.
- Ability to build a favorable rapport with the members of the Tenderloin community through positive engagement Ability to efficiently communicate and work among diverse populations in a respectful manner that include setting limits and maintaining workplace boundaries.
- Ability to work in the Tenderloin or adjacent urban neighborhoods per assignment.
- Trainable in CSS de-escalation techniques and learn by observing experienced staff.
- Openness to receive job related feedback to improve performance and for professional growth.
- Capable of standing for 5-8 hour shifts.
- Ability to work independently on assigned posts.
- Ability to lift and carry 75 pounds.
