Client Services Specialist: Targeted SNAP Outreach Coordinator

IMMEDIATE OPENING: Targeted SNAP Outreach Coordinator

The Health and Welfare Council of Long Island (HWCLI) is a private, not for profit, health and human services planning, research/public education and advocacy organization that serves as the umbrella for public and voluntary agencies serving Long Islands poor and vulnerable individuals and families. HWCLIs mission is to respond to the needs of Long Islands vulnerable families and individuals ensuring that the voice of the powerless are heard.

Program/Job Summary:

HWCLI seeks an energetic and passionate individual to plan and coordinate outreach and advocacy for Long Islands vulnerable and at-risk populations. The position includes working directly with agency partners and other community based organizations to foster coalition building as well as working directly with community members to educate and empower them. Specifically, the position provides education and application assistance related to food insecurity for Long Islands most vulnerable residents including recent immigrants.

Duties:

  • Assist clients with SNAP (food stamps) information, prescreening and application assistance.
  • Partner with other human service agencies to create referral systems between agencies to connect clients with services.
  • Train partner agencies on basic SNAP eligibility to ensure the creation of an effective referral system.
  • Plan, coordinate and conduct presentations and workshops targeting schools and community locations where community members feel safe and have a trusted relationship.
  • Develop materials with targeted outreach messages for their specific client demographics; tailoring the message and medium for the target audience.
  • Inform HWCLIs advocacy and policy work through interactions with community members and issues in the field.
  • Attend any regularly scheduled sessions for program information, updates, ongoing training and technical support. Maintain expertise in eligibility, enrollment and program specifications.
  • Complete all required reports.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • The ability to juggle multiple tasks at the same time.
  • Comfortable working with diverse communities and individuals.
  • Computer Skills.
  • A. or B.S. degree preferred. Significant work experience preferred.
  • Vehicle required for travel throughout Long Island.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) required.

Salary: $45,000

License/Certification:

  • Drivers License required.
