This position reports directly to the Director of Information Technology and Media Services. SERC's mission is to provide resources, professional development, and a centralized library to educators, families, and community members in collaboration with the CT State Board of Education and other partners. SERC believes that all students have the right to access opportunities and experiences that reflect and respect their differences and abilities. Research indicates that educational outcomes for students of color, students who are English learners, and students with disabilities continue to lag behind the results of other students. SERC's consultants and staff, in collaboration with our partners in school districts and organizations, build the capacity of educators, service providers, and families to meet the diverse needs of our student population. General Summary The Client System Administrator will support approximately fifty users with assigned assets along with facility IT and audio-visual equipment in support of the mission of SERC and customers. Essential Job Functions The SERC Client System Administrator monitors network devices and performs regular software updates. They also support end-users with work orders; install hardware, software, and peripherals, and configure operating systems to reduce system downtime while enhancing user efficiency. Applicants must have the ability to complete the following essential job functions: Managing multiple platforms of information systems (mainly Windows OS). Troubleshooting system problems, outages, and issues. Monitoring performance and maintaining systems according to requirements to ensure smooth operation. Assist IT team to maintain file stores, firewalls, and other servers for organizational operations. Responsibilities The Client System Administrator provides a wide range of support to manage and maintain computer systems. These duties include, but are not limited to: Providing direct customer service support. Troubleshooting system problems, outages and addressing system issues. Setting up network accounts and staff internal workstations. Onboarding new users and to ensure a smooth transition into SERC and support transition to other work locations virtually, as needed. Upgrading systems with new releases and models. Developing expertise to train staff in innovative technologies. Monitoring systems and connections for security risks and or threats. Additional duties may, at times, be required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of:
  • Various administration/networking skills (e.g., Active Directory, Exchange, SQL Server, Windows Server, MS Outlook and Microsoft 365 tools and services).

  • Demonstrating effective time management and organizational skills to prioritize, organize, multi-task, and accomplish work in a timely manner while meeting specified deadlines.

  • Travel within the state to support the mission of the agency.
The ideal applicants must have demonstrated effectiveness in a collaborative, highly team- oriented environment yet possess initiative, self-motivation, and the ability to manage multiple priorities independently and work with minimal supervision. Supervisory Responsibilities This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Work Environment The SERC Client System Administrator will operate in both a professional office and virtual environment. Professional business attire will be required. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers and phones. There is the potential for off-site requirements specific to workshops, training, or school and community work. Physical Demands The physical demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. The employee is frequently required to sit or stand; be mobile; use hands or fingers; handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and lift, carry, push and or pull items. May be required to climb and balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl. The availability of transportation is required to attend off-site work requirements. Expected Hours of Work This role is a full-time, exempt position. Days and work hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Occasionally, weekend or after-hours work may be necessary. Education and Experience Bachelor's degree or higher is preferred in a relevant field such as computer science, information technology, or a related field; AND 3+ years as IT support specialist or network administrator; OR any similar combination of education and experience. Salary *$55,500 *Salary is non-negotiable; all new hires start at the beginning of the salary range. This position will remain open until filled.
