This position's primary responsibility is to organize, deliver, and evaluate climate-smart agricultural commodities practices for soil carbon sequestration and soil fertility profiles, sheep and goat production, and forage production.Essential Job Duties This position seeks a highly qualified candidate for a Climate-Smart Agricultural Commodities Field Technician position. This position's primary responsibility is to organize, deliver, and evaluate climate-smart agricultural commodities practices for soil carbon sequestration and soil fertility profiles, sheep and goat production, and forage production. Programming should focus on research-based climate-smart management practices and their environmental impacts. This position is expected to be an integral part of the animal science and forages team and assist in developing and implementing climate-smart agricultural programs as needed to meet producer needs and challenges. The field technician will join a highly motivated team of agents, scientists, and specialists with several existing programs, including but not limited to supporting sustainable small ruminant production systems.The candidate will work with local producers, advisory groups, commodity organizations, and other interested parties to determine program needs in the region.The successful candidate must demonstrate capability in planning and executing climate-smart agricultural programs in animal science and forages and should have practical knowledge of environmental best management practices related to livestock and forage production.
  • Applicants must have a working knowledge of operating a personal computer and experience with software programs, including Microsoft Word, Explorer, Excel, and Outlook.
  • The candidate must demonstrate practical communication skills, possess the ability to work cooperatively with individuals and groups, and be willing to utilize various forms of outreach for program delivery.
  • This position requires regular travel to carry out data collection and extension activities, and the successful incumbent must have access to reliable transportation.
