The Center for Inherited Blood Disorders (CIBD) is a mission-driven non-profit focused on delivering high-quality, comprehensive, and family-centered care to improve the quality of life for children and adults with blood disorders.

Job Summary The Clinic Nurse works with the Clinic team to coordinate the care and services of CIBD patients across the continuum of illness. The Clinic Nurse performs general nursing care to patients and will accurately collect, document, and report patient condition/history/care. The Clinic Nurse also promote patient independence, helps establish patient goals, educates patients on health maintenance, and provides case management (e.g., obtaining referrals and authorizations; coordinating infusion/transfusion schedules; renewing medications; ordering labs) all under the supervision of the attending physician.

Shift Monday - Friday, 8:30 - 5:00

Essential Duties

Patient Care: Performs general nursing assessments, care and education in accordance with clinic protocols and all applicable accreditation, federal, state and local regulations. (e.g., interviews; screening; vital sign assessments); Accurately documents patient care services (e.g., demographics; treatment; care notes; vitals) into the electronic medical record; Follows through with physician orders by performing any necessary lab work/testing procedures (e.g., lab draws) and provides follow up on test orders/reports/results to physicians and patients; Assists clinic staff/physicians with answering phones, screening patient charts prior to appointments and preparing patients for examinations/procedures; Promotes comprehensive care team model and becomes cross-trained as necessary to provide some administrative functions and staffing support as needed.

Medication Administration: Performs administration of medication/treatments (e.g., infusions; injections; subcutaneous, oral, and other necessary methods as prescribed by physicians); Assesses, records, monitors, and reports symptoms or changes in patient condition; Provides comprehensive education to patients and their caregivers to ensure prescribed medications are administered safely at home.

Case Management: Under the supervision of the attending physician, provides case management for patients (e.g., obtaining referrals and authorizations; coordinating infusion/transfusion schedules; renewing medications; ordering labs); Acts as a liaison to providers, patients and staff; Responds and provides care coordination with community providers/schools to ensure excellent patient care services.

Regulatory Compliance: Accountable for maintaining a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations (e.g., Blood Borne Pathogens, Hand Hygiene, Title 22 requirements); Protects patient confidentiality per HIPAA rules as well as CIBD's policy and procedures.

Other: Participates in surveillance/collection/processes related to clinic studies as study staff; Supports the recruitment, retention and participation of patients in research projects; Attends appropriate training, seminars and workshops as required.

Required Education and Experience

Graduation from an accredited school of Registered Nursing (RN) program

Minimum 2 years nursing experience in acute care or ambulatory setting

Required Licensure/Certification/Registration

Active CA State Registered Nurse (RN) License

Basic Life Support (BLS) Certified

HIPAA training

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with Hematology patients

Experience working with peripheral and central line IV access

Bilingual in English and Spanish

CIBD is a part of a nationwide network of over 140 Hemophilia Treatment Centers that use multidisciplinary teams of blood disorder specialists to provide expert comprehensive diagnosis, medical care, outreach, education, outcomes monitoring, surveillance, and prevention services to people with hemophilia, Sickle-Cell Anemia, Thalassemia, Von Willebrand Disease, and other related hematology conditions. CIBD is the regional grantee for the Western States Region/Region IX providing regional leadership, fiscal and administrative oversight, grants management, capacity building, clinical education, technical assistance, evaluation, and outreach to public and private health agencies at the local, state, and federal levels.
