Under the supervision of the Director of Clinical Services, Public Health Nurse is a non-exempt position under FLSA.This is a public health nursing position with work involving direct nursing services for clients in open or satellite clinics. Duties include, but are not restricted to, immunizations, family planning, STD, child and adult health nursing programs, and coordinating these programs with related services. The employee in this position should possess excellent communication, organizational, and public relation skills. As well as being willing to help the physician provide comprehensive wound care.Qualifications: Prefer a minimum of one-year clinical experience in a clinical setting. Current LPN/RN license in the state of Kansas; CPR certification. Experience wound care or related field preferred. Strong communication and patient care skills.Duties:
- Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, continuous quality improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards and other administrative duties as assigned
- Writes initial nursing histories and assesses patients' conditions
- Administers and controls medications
- Assists in formulating and screening Quality Assurance criteria and providing in-service training for staff
- Monitors, maintains and ensures accuracy of recording patient care documentation. Maintains all required reports, records, statistics, etc.
- Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with clinic standards
- Maintains patient records and charts to ensure an accurate record of the patient's medical treatment
- Observes emotional stability of patients and expresses interest in their progress
- Assists physicians with examinations, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care
- Demonstrates sensitivity to patient comfort and privacy
- Arranges for patients ordered diagnostic and therapeutic services
- Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops
- Attends meetings as required
- Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment
- Assists other members of the nursing team and/or other disciplines
- Cooperates with other personnel to achieve department objectives and maintain good employee relations and interdepartmental objectives
- Orients, instructs and trains assigned personnel
- Demonstrates competency and professionalism in performing the overall patient care and responsibilities of the clinic nurse position
- Maintains confidentiality of all patient information
- Evaluates each client's immunization status and determines appropriate action based on written protocols
- Obtains laboratory specimens for the screening and/or diagnosis communicable diseases
- Provides screening for hypertension, diabetes, anemia, and urinalysis and determines appropriate actionbased on referral criteria
- Performs and reads Mantoux skin testing for screening in tuberculosis control
- Screens for head lice and determines appropriate action based on written protocol
- Provides health education regarding communicable disease, family planning methods, and sexuallytransmitted diseases to parents, children, and the public
- Provides physical assessments including vision, hearing, Bright Future screening, and laboratory tests withappropriate referrals and follow-up
- Counsels the clients and family in meeting health needs including health promotion, nutrition, and illness care
- Assist the physician with wound care procedures, including cleaning, dressing and monitoring
- Conduct wound assessments including measurements, documentation and evaluation of healing
- Maintain sterile environments and adhere to infection control protocols
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure personalized patient care plans
- Educate patients and their families on wound care management and post-treatment care
