Req Id: 34068 Job Title: Clinical Assistant Professor of Elementary Science Education City: West Lafayette Job Description: Position DescriptionThe Science Education Program in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Purdue University invites applications for a Clinical Assistant Professor in Elementary Science Education. This is a 9-month academic year, clinical track position with a 3-3 teaching load. Reappointments occur in 3-year contractual terms. Clinical appointments are non-tenure track but with the potential for promotion in rank. The position also includes the possibility of summer employment.ResponsibilitesResponsibilities include:
  • Teach 3 courses each fall and spring semester
  • Teach and/or coordinate undergraduate science-specific teacher-education courses
  • Teach graduate-level courses as needed
  • Advise graduate students
  • Engage in activities within the College of Education, across the university, and in K-12 schools
  • Participate in program, department, college, and university committees
  • Collaborate on program level assessment and accreditation activities
This position requires an on-campus, face-to-face presence. Additional InformationOpportunities exist for the development of graduate courses, as well as collaboration with centers including the Center for Advancing the Teaching and Learning of STEM (CATALYST) - an interdisciplinary center in the College of Education with faculty, staff and graduate students from science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education ( Required Qualifications
  • Doctorate in science education or related field
  • Experience of past collaborations across P-12 disciplines
  • Experience teaching elementary school science or elementary science methods courses
  • 3+ years of K-12 experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Earned undergraduate degree, graduate degree, or minor in a science or related discipline (e.g., biological science, chemistry, earth/space science, physics, animal/plant sciences)
  • Experience with pre-K through grade 2 science
  • Experience teaching in a teacher education program
  • Experience mentoring graduate students or undergraduate students
  • Experience with integrating engineering design in elementary science
