The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.Position SummaryThe Division of Gynecologic Specialty Surgery in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Columbia University Medical Center is comprised of 10 physicians, 4 fellows, and 3 nurse practitioners practicing in two unique sections: Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (MIGS) and Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery (Urogynecology). We provide comprehensive gynecologic care, exploring different diagnostic and treatment options to treat and manage Gynecologic and Urogynecologic problems, from fibroids to incontinence. Our providers work with each patient to design an individualized care management plan, from routine testing to the most advanced diagnosis and treatment for women of all ages. We are looking for a Physician Assistant to join our dynamic team in providing outstanding care for our patientsThe Clinical Coordination will encompass providing direct patient care, conducting evaluations and consultations, overseeing pre- and post-surgical patients, facilitating discussions with patients and referring physicians, securing insurance authorization for medications and procedures. The PA will also see patients both independently to develop a panel and in collaboration with other physicians in the practice.ResponsibilitiesThe Clinical Coordinator/Physician Assistant will report to both the Division Chief and the Division Administrator of Gynecologic Specialty Surgery. The incumbent will be responsible for providing GYN care services in the office; including assessing, diagnosing, prescribing, treating, and educating patients. Works closely with the Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgeons (MIGS) and other clinicians in a team approach to patient care* The incumbent will perform and document comprehensive surgical, medical and psychosocial health histories, examinations (document pertinent positive and negative findings), and initiate/maintain a problem/medication list* Work closely with the physicians in the Division to provide high quality, comprehensive patient care assists with in office-based procedures* Conducts relevant physical exams, documenting pertinent positive and negative findings* Order and interpret diagnostic studies including but not limited to laboratory and imaging studies, diagnostic impression, and/or form a differential based on the subjective and objective data obtained* Conduct pre-operative counseling and post-op visits in collaboration with individual physicians* Develop and see independent patient panels* Formulate a goal-directed plan that includes health maintenance, anticipatory guidance and appropriate medical and nursing interventions according to the established protocols* Assist with triaging patient phone calls and processing prescription request, signing off on all normal labs, reviewing all labs and collaborating with physicians in contacting patients with abnormal results and ensuring appropriate follow up is scheduled and handled appropriately* Be primary point of communication for patients, family members and referring doctors.
