The rates shown include a 6% premium pay (base= $-$ plus 6%). This reflects only a portion of the total compensation package for this position. Additional compensation may be available for this role through differentials, incentives, and bonuses. In addition, this position may be eligible for participation and company contributions into the Kern County Employees' Retirement Plan.Job DescriptionUnder general direction of a Clinical Nurse Director or their designee; plans, directs, and evaluates the overall nursing care and functions in an assigned nursing unit. Coordinates the activities of the unit and directs, organizes, and assigns work to the nursing staff. Evaluates quality aspects; monitors and promotes safe patient care within the assigned patient care area(s). Serves as a role model and mentor; and reinforces core standards of care.DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:The Clinical Nurse Leader classification has supervisory responsibility for a nursing unit or units during a shift. Incumbents assist the Clinical Director and Clinical Supervisor in assessing total patient needs, evaluating performance of staff, and coordinating the unit with other Hospital units and services. The Clinical Nurse Leader assumes full responsibility for management of the unit in the Clinical Director or Clinical Supervisor's absence.Essential Functions:* Supervises staff and the operation of the unit on his/her designated shift, and is a role model for all staff.* Serves as a consultant, advisor, and as needed, a resource for complex clinical problem decisions and unit operations.* Assists with development of unit schedules and daily staff assignments.* Participates in the performance appraisal process as assigned.* Ensures patient care providers meet approved Standards of Practice.* Promotes cooperative working relationships with physicians and other health care providers.* Develops assignments based upon patient care priorities and staff competency/skill level.* Assists in implementing departmental policies and procedures.* Promotes departmental and unit based priorities/objectives including safety, environment of care, infection control standards, customer satisfaction, and performance improvement initiatives.* Collects and documents data about patients commonly seen on the unit according to prescribed methods.* Interprets complex assessment data to determine whether patient has physiological and/or psycho social risk factors; records and reports assessment data.* Makes appropriate nursing decisions based on the assessment of the patient and interpretation of clinical data.Employment Standards:Graduation from an accredited registered nursing program, possess and maintain valid and unrestricted license issued by the State of California to practice as a Registered Nurse, AND four (4) years of nursing experience;ANDPossess and maintain a current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) card at time of hire. As a continued condition of employment, employee must maintain RQI Provider certification and competency.Depending on assignment incumbents may be required to possess and maintain specific certificates of competency as a condition of employment.Employees must maintain all health requirements designated by Kern Medical.Knowledge of: Advanced theory, techniques and practices of nursing; medical terminology, instruments and equipment; the uses and effects of medicines and narcotics.Ability to: Assign, supervise, train, assist and evaluate members of nursing unit; prepare and maintain records, charts, reports, and statistical data; deal with patients empathetically and respectfully while performing treatments prescribed; maintain a safe facility environment; work effectively under pressure; supervise and participate effectively in performance improvement processes; provide and promote a positive learning environment; establish and maintain effective working relationship with staff, other hospital employees, patients and their families; dependent upon area of practice or department assignments, demonstrates clinical knowledge and skill in the care of populations served by Kern Medical facilities.A background check will be conducted for this classification.
