Clinical Nurse Practitioner position in the Suffolk County Office of Employee Health Services (EHS). EHS is responsible for protecting the health and safety of Suffolk County municipal employees. EHS conducts pre-placement medical evaluations for select titles, including healthcare workers and law enforcement candidates, fitness for duty examinations, workplace exposure investigations, and periodic medical surveillance for employees in a variety of occupational settings who are at risk for specific workplace exposures. Does related work as required. Key Elements Of The Role:
- Performs pre-placement physical exams for health employees and law-enforcement candidates, including review of ancillary testing such as EKGs and pulmonary function tests
- Reviews appeals submitted by candidates who were medically disqualified
- Performs fitness-for-duty exams, including orthopedic and neurological assessment and referral for specialist evaluation as indicated
- Performs OSHA exams, including assessment for occupational exposures and implementation of recommended exposure monitoring as per OSHA standards
- Performs evaluation and management of occupational injuries including needle sticks
- Counsels and educates patients regarding preventive health measures, chronic disease management, and occupational safety and injury prevention
- Gives immunizations including MMRV, HBV, Influenza, Td/Tdap, Rabies and PPD testing
- Conducts off-site immunization programs and PPD testing for Suffolk County departments as needed;
- Supervises the work of other medical and office personnel, including RNs and clerical staff
- Maintains patient charts including documentation in electronic medical record, OSHA Log, Immunization records, laboratory and radiology reports, and submitted medical documentation from outside agencies;
- Coordinates, distributes and documents medical records of Annual Health Assessments for Health Care Workers following SCDHS protocol and Public Health Law;
- Advises Office Assistants to schedule equipment maintenance and place supply orders as needed in support of EHS operations;
- Utilizes Excel spreadsheets to analyze EHS exam statistics and productivity measures
- Develops and revises nursing care plans;
- Supervises submission of Respiratory Protection Program reports to intercounty departments
- May serve as a member of various Health Department committees;
- Monitors needs of Health Department employees following Rabies Prevention Program protocol including performing venipuncture for lab assessment of antibody titers and packaging and transport of samples to Wadsworth Center

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OPEN COMPETITIVE Valid certification as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) issued by, and registered with, the State of New York, with a specialization in a definite area of practice recognized by the State of New York.

required to be credentialed by the Suffolk County Department of Health Services' Compliance Bureau Credentialing Committee, and maintain this credential throughout employment in the assignment. At the time of appointment and during employment in this title, employees
must possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State. Candidates
must meet Federal and New York State employee health requirements, including but not limited to immunizations and screening for tuberculosis. - Vacation Time: During the first year, employees are entitled to 10 Vacation days, earned at the rate of 2.75 per pay period totaling 10 days annually. Employees continue to earn vacation days in accordance with the schedule, reaching a maximum of 30 days per year. Unused vacation time rolls over each year until a maximum of 420 hours.
- Sick Time: Earned at the rate of 1/2 day per pay period totaling 13 days annually. Unused sick time rolls over each year, with no maximum rollover.
- Personal Leave: An employee granted 4 days of personnel leave each year. Employees receive 7.5 hours on their 1st day and will accrue one additional day every quarter. After employee first anniversary, 28 hours of personal days will be frontloaded at the beginning of each year worked. Unused personal time rolls over into sick each year with no maximum rollover.
- Salary: Step increase every 12 months on July 1 completed year of service in addition to contractual raises through 2024.
- Membership in the New York State Retirement Pension System 5 year vested. In order to retire with Health benefits you need to work 10 continuous years with the county and be 55.

This Role Is A Provisional Appointment A provisional appointment, which occurs only in the competitive class, is a temporary appointment to a position for which no eligible list exists or for which an eligible list exists with fewer than three candidates who are willing to accept the position. In order to become permanent, the employee who is provisionally appointed must take the next examination for the position in question. The appointment to the position is then made from among the three highest scoring passing candidates who indicate their willingness to accept the position. Civil Service law does not compel the appointing authority to choose the provisional employee should he or she be one of the three candidates.
