Job DescriptionJob Title: Clinical Nurse- Woundcare -WOCN-Mount Sinai Hospital-FT/NightsThe Nurse Clinician is a registered professional nurse who demonstrates expert clinical expertise through advanced knowledge and skills in an area of clinical nursing specialization. The nurse clinician is able to guide and promote the growth and development of nursing practice through application of advanced nursing knowledge/skills with patients and families, nurses and other health care providers. Duties and Responsibilities: .
  • Responsible for consultation, clinical teaching, nursing practice and the application and initiation of specialized nursing care for a designated patient population.
  • Provides direct patient care within an area of clinical specialization. Provides education to patients, families and/or caregivers using individualized teaching and counseling skills.
  • Participates in the assessment, implementation and ongoing evaluation of clinical services for a designated patient population. Practice includes, but is not limited to: Patient screening Patient/Family education D/C planning and follow-up Case management Research
  • Maintains clinical expertise in area of specialization
  • Serves as a resource for patient and/or families/caregivers.
  • Uses discriminative judgment in the selection, study and application of existing theories from nursing and allied fields applicable to the uniqueness of the patient care situation.
  • Promotes and participates in the interdisciplinary approach to patient care delivery.
  • Acts as a patient advocate utilizing the Patient Bill of Rights.
  • Supports mission, vision, philosophy, and goals of the Department of Nursing and The Mount Sinai Medical Center.
  • Supports Patient Focused Care, the Professional Practice Model and Primary Nursing.
  • Serves as a consultant by: Serves as a consultant by:
  • Assisting clinical nurses and other health care professionals in the utilization of the nursing problem solving process in current clinical situations.
  • Assisting clinical nurses and other health care professionals in the utilization of the nursing problem solving process in current clinical situations.
  • Considers ethical issues of professional practice and adheres to the code of ethics. Conducts case presentations.
  • Serves as a resource in specialty area. Serves as a role model.
  • Demonstrates to nurses and students of nursing the application of theory and research in clinical practice.
  • Participates in development and utilization of nursing research designs and serves as a resource in the total research process.
  • Keeps knowledge current regarding trends and technological developments in nursing theory and practice.
  • Participates in the Department of Nursing and Hospital Committees. Participates actively in professional organizations.
  • Contributes to the positive image of nursing in the health system and local community by implementing programs that recognize the strengths of the nursing profession.
  • Participates in departmental and interdisciplinary committees which determine policy, standards and clinical procedures that affect nursing practice.
  • Utilizes and participates in the development of hospital, Departmental and Care Center standards, interdisciplinary clinical/pathways, policies, procedures and guidelines as well as regulatory agency standards as appropriate resources.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of a continuous quality improvement program.
  • Treats co-workers, patients and families with dignity and respect.
  • Is open and responsive to the diverse backgrounds and experience of other people, and promotes and environment that is sensitive to cultural diversity.

Qualifications Education:Masters Degree in Nursing. Exceptions may be made for candidates from specialty programs with relevant experience.Experience:5 years relevant clinical experience. Experience in leadership and/or education role.Licenses:1.
