About ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan Hospital
ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan Hospital is a 114-bed community hospital located in Ahoskie. Serving four nearby counties, the 15-bed emergency department sees approximately 18,000 patients per year. ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan Hospital provides a wide range of health services, including medical, surgical and radiation oncology. In addition, the Wound Healing and Pain Management clinics serve as referral centers for neighboring ECU Health hospitals and providers.
Position Summary
The Clinical Support Assistant will be responsible for providing quality registration, scheduling, medical record functions, coding, insurance authorizations and customer service to all patients, visitors and internal customers with the ability to multi-task and work independently in a fast paced environment.
Responsibilities
Demonstrates financial stewardship by carefully and responsibly assisting in the management of the financial well-being of our organization through submission and implementation of cost-saving ideas, avoidance of waste in supply and/or medication use, adherence to staffing matrixes and effective time management and prioritization.
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide services appropriate the age and diagnosis of patient/client.
Helps to maintain an orderly and professional environment.
Provides/records patient and family education in patient medical record.
Complete phone Note documentation (patient name, date of birth, contact numbers including area code, etc). Messages/Questions are delivered to the appropriate team member.
Schedule patient appointments, maintains/provides schedules via HealthSpan.
Demonstrates effective computer skills for electronic charting, billing and reporting.
Performs patient registration, pre-certification, pre-registrations and insurance verification.
Communicates with appropriate staff/other departments concerning patient needs such as stat orders, consultation orders, patient therapies, OR scheduling, patient pre-op testing, radiology etc.
Scans/Copies patient information (i.e. registration, transfers, referrals, Medical Record Release etc).
Maintains paper charts, filing, dictation, forms; admission packets/charts, etc. (i.e. DNR, Advance Directives, Consents) and distributes information to necessary departments and/or systems.
Patient appointment reminders via phone, letter and new patient packets.
Communicates and Corresponds with patients insurance for authorization of visits and procedures.
Retrieves patient lab results and other pertinent information from Healthspan and places paper copy on patients chart.
Insures POS collections goals are met monthly by providing insurance benefits and collecting payments.
Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
Minimum Requirements
High School Diploma required
Associate Degree or two (2) years of related experience in a healthcare setting required- or higher.
One year of specifically applicable experience in a hospital, physician office, public health agency, insurance company, co-op or internship may be substituted for one year of the required post high school education with a maximum substitution of two years.
Computer experience required.
Preferred Requirements
Medical terminology course/education preferred.
