Job Description
Assists clinicians with the performance of their daily patient care needs including emergency, outpatient and inpatient cases. Provides quality care for all equine patients to include intensive care cases. The role of the clinical veterinary technician is to provide treatment and medication administration, including controlled substances. Assists with diagnostic procedures involving all imaging modalities, operating room support and case circulation, laboratory and pathology testing, necropsy support, and dispensary support. Provides support for the anesthesia service in both elective, research/training and emergency cases. Provides training for veterinary technician students, veterinary students and interns. Provides shared rotational emergency after-hours and weekend on-call coverage for the operating room and after-hours (evening and night shift) coverage for the nursing department.
Required Qualifications
LVT in the state of VA or licensure from a state that will transfer. Experience handling and working with a variety of sport, pleasure and competition horses. Skills and knowledge to assist with a variety of biomedical, performance, imaging, nursing, clinical laboratory/pathology/necropsy and equine veterinary care procedures. Working knowledge of equine anatomy and veterinary terminology. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to follow established protocol and procedures. Ability to make decisions and react quickly in order to maintain the safety of patients and personnel. Experience with computers. Must be able to safely move and handle up
to 50 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience inducing, monitoring, maintaining and recovering anesthesia patients. Experience with veterinary practice management information systems.
