Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM), a national leader in research, education, and clinical care, is announcing an Clinician Cluster Recruitment Initiative aiming to add 20 new faculty within the next four years. We recognize that faculty from historically underrepresented populations in medicine are a tremendous resource. Like other high-impact faculty, these individuals enhance the experiences of the learners they teach, the patients they serve, and the organizations of which they are a part. The IU School of Medicine Cluster Recruitment Initiative is an opportunity to invest in highly qualified clinicians and support them as they develop rewarding and impactful careers in academic medicine.
Investing in the Career and Professional Development of Each Cluster
Faculty with the shared lived experiences of those from historically underrepresented populations in medicine are being asked to help solve some of healthcare's largest challenges. We want to give something in return.
Our initiative seeks to invest in the career and professional development of high-impact faculty by providing four years of holistic support and development that includes executive coaching, partnerships with department chairs, and participation in an established professional development program. Leveraging Indiana University's high-quality graduate degree programs and one of the top-ranked physician MBA programs in the country, the initiative includes master's programs and certificate options across four career development tracks (Clinician Educator, Health Systems Leader, Health Informatics, and an Inclusive Excellence Fellowship Track).
The initiative will recruit clinicians who reflect the lived experiences of the Hoosier communities where health inequities are the most disparate, including Black/African American and Hispanic/Latin(e) communities. As a ripple effect, we expect an increase in the number of role models available to IUSM learners and trainees who can further address workforce needs and health disparities. We further aim to expand the diversity of thought and experiences of within the leadership of our health system and school.
