Position: Cloud Architect and Migration Specialist Location: Bethesda, MD- Onsite/Hybrid Duration: Long TermJob Description: The Lead Cloud Architect and Migration Specialist supports the NLM's mission-critical applications and is committed to pushing the boundaries of innovation and technology. As the Lead AWS Cloud Architect, the Contractor will play a pivotal role in defining and executing THE NLM's AWS cloud strategy. The contractor will lead a talented team of DevOps, Sysops, and SecOps engineers in designing, implementing, and optimizing scalable and secure AWS solutions. Collaborating closely with stakeholders across the NLM/NIH, you'll drive innovation, solve complex challenges, and deliver transformative solutions that drive business success. Key responsibilities for cloud architecture and migration include (but are not limited to): • Lead the design and architecture of cloud solutions, including infrastructure as code, • microservices architecture, serverless computing, containers, and data storage. • Define cloud migration strategies and guide the adoption of AWS services to modernize 12 existing applications and infrastructure. • Architect highly available and fault-tolerant systems on AWS, leveraging services such • as AWS Lambda, Amazon EC2, Amazon RDS, Amazon S3, etc. • Design secure cloud environments, implementing best practices for identity and access management, data encryption, network security, and compliance. • Collaborate with DevOps teams to automate deployment, configuration, and monitoring of cloud resources using tools like AWS CloudFormation and AWS CloudWatch. • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to Developers, DevOps, SysOps and SecOps engineers, and other team members. • Stay current with AWS platform updates, new features, and industry trends, evaluating their impact on our architecture and recommending adjustments as needed. • Conduct performance optimization, cost analysis, and capacity planning for AWS infrastructure and services. • Work closely with stakeholders to gather requirements, assess technical feasibility, and propose cloud solutions that align with business objectives. • Participate in the evaluation and selection of third-party tools and services to enhance cloud capabilities. Skills and Qualifications: • AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional certification or equivalent experience. Networking and Security Specialty Certification is preferred. • 8 years of experience designing and implementing cloud solutions on AWS and migrating applications to Cloud. • Proficiency in AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, ECS/EKS, VPC, IAM, CloudFormation, etc. • Strong understanding of cloud security principles and best practices. • Experience with DevOps practices and tools for CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and configuration management (e.g., Jenkins, Git, Terraform, Ansible). • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously. • Experience in regulated industries such as healthcare, finance, or government, with knowledge of compliance requirements. • Experience leading technical teams and driving architectural decisions.
