Job Description:
Job Description - Cloud DBA Job Purpose: A Cloud DBA, Enterprise Systems will oversee day-to-day monitoring, management, and remediation of the team's various cloud databases on AWS. In addition to live production databases, this role will also be supporting the development teams with designing schema, access patterns and other areas of database strategy. Primary areas of focus will be performance tuning and monitoring, cost analysis and management, data security and auditing, access administration and backup & recovery. What You'll Do:
  • Leading in data base design and optimization.
  • Lead data base architect for enterprise systems
  • Team leader and approver of data base architecture on development project
  • Create, maintain, and administer AWS cloud databases in a highly available environment
  • Provide database strategy and support for enterprise development teams
  • Lead database migration efforts using AWS DMS
  • Proactive tuning and maintenance of database systems for optimal performance
  • Proactive cost analysis and tuning to maximize ROI
  • Monitoring with CloudWatch to ensure uptime and SLAs
  • Administration of user access
  • Manage database auditing and security
  • Manage day-to-day tasks such as job scheduling
  • Ensuring compliance with database vendor license agreement
  • Designing and implementing disaster recovery (DR) solutions
  • System storage and planning future storage requirements for the database system
KPIs:
  • Uptime, SLAs, and overall health of cloud database systems
  • ROI and cost management of entire cloud DB footprint
  • Quality of strategy and support for development teams
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve technical problems
Who You Are:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5-7+ years' experience in enterprise development
  • 5+ years of DBA experience, 5+ on AWS
  • Hands on experience in database management using AWS and/or modern cloud technologies
  • Strong technical, analytical, and troubleshooting skills with a solution-oriented mindset
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with ability to work efficiently in a matrixed environment with geographically dispersed teams
  • Expertise in enterprise database platforms such as Oracle, SQL Server, Postgres, and Aurora
  • Strong knowledge of big data technologies like AWS Redshift, Hive and Spark
  • Knowledge with NoSQL platforms such as MongoDB and DynamoDB
  • Knowledge on ETL solutions such as DMS, Glue & Lambda functions
  • Knowledge on dashboards and Dashboard platforms such as AWS QuickSights, Google Looker, Tableau, PowerBI
  • AWS Certification a plus
  • Knowledge in modern data engineering languages such as Python, Pyspark, R, and coding best practices such as CI/CD a plus
  • Knowledge of the software development lifecycle and concepts such as Agile, SAFE, scrum, CI/CD, and DevOps a plus
  • Experience with CRM/Finance/Accounting systems a plus
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple projects and assignments simultaneously in a cross-functional team environment
  • Solid written and oral communication skills; ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language
  • Ability to work independently and direct work to other team members
  • Must have effective communication and interpersonal skills to translate and explain complex technical issues and solutions to business leaders and other stakeholders
  • Some Travel Required (?)
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • 7.5-hour business workday but variations in work volume frequently require extended working hours for evening and late-night events
