To perform this job, an individual must perform each essential function satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation.
* Performs all aspects of resident care in an environment that optimizes safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
* Interacts professionally with residents/families; treats residents and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of residents and their families.
* Effectively and appropriately communicate with residents, physicians, family members and co-workers, demonstrating customer service excellence through application of positive language principles, appropriate response and use of constructive problem-solving techniques which foster positive outcomes.
* Assists with resident admissions, discharges and transportation to various departments for ordered tests/procedures, as needed.
* Perform an appropriate assessment on all residents as related to the care requested and provided and reassessments as per policy.
* Provides care that meets the psychosocial and physical needs of the resident within the scope of practice for a certified nursing assistant.
* Provides general nursing assistant care such as positioning patients, turning, moving or repositioning residents, as necessary, for comfort or medical care, applying/ utilizing special equipment, assisting in use of bedpan, commode, and ambulating patients.
* Performs basic medical tasks such as measuring and recording vital signs, temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, blood pressure and intake- output.
* Answers resident call lights, anticipates resident's needs and makes rounds of assigned residents.
* Provides morning care which may include bed bath, shower, whirlpool, oral hygiene, combing hair, back care, dressing patients, changing bed linen, cleaning over bed table and bedside stand, straightening room and other general care as necessary throughout the shift.
* Provides evening care which includes hands/ face washing as needed, oral hygiene, back rubs, peri-care, refreshing linen, cleaning over bed tables, straightening room, and other general care as needed.
* Prepares patients for meals, serves, and removes food trays and assists with meals or feeds patients as necessary.
* Observes residents mental and physical conditions, and complaints of pain, reports any changes to supervising nursing staff.
* Adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the resident and family regarding pain management.
* Makes rounds with outgoing shift; knows whereabouts of assigned residents.
* Makes rounds with oncoming shift to ensure the unit is left in good condition.
* Maintains accurate and continued documentation including resident histories, conditions, treatments, responses, and assessment of changes. Documentation meets current standards and policies.
* Follows the six (6) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors.
* Maintains current knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the resident and their clinical condition.
* Applies principles of sterile techniques and infection control procedures.
* Assists in orientation and training of new staff/students as necessary.
* Keeps current with principles and practices, regulations, and standards that apply to healthcare.
* Performs other reasonably related job duties as assigned or requested, within scope of practice.
Qualifications
Education:
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED), or equivalent, is required.
Required Licenses:
Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in State of Mississippi for Long Term Care Facilities.
Required Certifications:
* American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification, required within 90 days of hire or transfer.
* Blood Glucose Monitoring Training Program Certification, required within 90 days of hire or transfer.
Required Skills:
* Requirements will include successful completion of orientation checklist and skills/credentials/competency requirements of specific area of work.

* Excellent written, verbal and communication skills.
* Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting resident or employee safety or security. Additional languages preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of twelve months' experience in a medical surgical inpatient setting (hospital) within the last thirty-six months, preferred.
