Position Title: CNA- Med SURGDepartment: Med/SURGReports To: Med surg-SCU DirectorDirect Reports: None FLSA Classification: Non-ExemptPosition Summary The CNA is responsible for providing direct and indirect patient care under the direction of a RN / Physician in the Medical / Surgical department. Provides individualized attention, which encourages each patient's ability to maintain or attain the highest practical physical, mental and psychosocial well-being. Assists patients with activities of daily living, providing for personal care and comfort, assists in the maintenance of a safe and clean environment for an assigned group of patient's and performs more complex clinical skills under the direction of an RN / Physician.General Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities
- Collects and communicates relevant and appropriate information to the nurse according to policy and standards of care including but not limited to: admission database, routine measurements; results of care activities; complaints/concerns of patients.
- Provides patient care with consideration of the patient's needs, age, culture and appropriate standards of care; involves patient/family in plan of care as directed by the nurse; contributes to the care planning process by providing clinical staff with specific information and observations of the patient's needs and preferences.
- Attends to the individual needs of patients, which may include but is not limited to assistance with grooming, bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, incontinent care, toileting, colostomy care, prosthetic appliances, transferring, ambulation, range of motion, communicating or other needs in keeping with the individuals' care requirements.
- Answers patient call lights promptly and courteously; inquires about patient's needs prior to leaving room; observes patients for changes in condition or behavior and promptly reports these changes to appropriate nursing personnel.
- Maintains the comfort, privacy, and dignity of patients in the delivery of services to them; interacts with patients in a manner that displays warmth and promotes a caring environment.
- Lifts, moves and transports patients, using proper body mechanics or lifting devices for accident prevention.
- Performs all aspects of the position in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors; utilizes established hand-off communication protocols; maintains the security of the department.
- Ensures documentation is complete, accurate and timely; communicates documented information to nurse for evaluation.
- Complies with all established safety procedures to ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff.
- Participates in performance improvement activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Education Requirements
- CNA Certification Required
Certification / Licensure Requirements
- Current IL CNA Certification Required
- BLS Required
Experience Requirements
- CNA minimum 1 year Preferred
Computer Skills
- Strong computer skills with the ability to navigate EMR programs
