The Patient Care Technician/CNA performs tasks supportive to delivery of patient care in assigned departments under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.
Job responsibilities include:
- Responding to patient needs/requests in a timely manner
- Obtaining and documenting patient vital signs and Accu-Checks and notifying primary nurse of results. Providing assistance in the patient admission, transfer, and discharge process as delegated by the nurse.
- Demonstrating an awareness and sensitivity to the rights, dignity, and confidentiality of patients/significant others.
- Seeking knowledge and competency about current and new practices. Incorporating new knowledge into daily practice.
- Incorporating evidence-based practice into daily activities to ensure practice is based on current research or data.
- Ensuring that the result of the care provided is effective and efficient.
- Utilizing communication skills to properly notify RN/LPN of changes in patient condition.
- Seeking out opportunities to improve patient care and participating in groups/meetings to assist and train new coworkers (precepting).
- Collaborating with patients, families, the leadership team, nurses, and other healthcare providers to provide quality patient care.
- Supporting and promoting the Mission, Vision, and Philosophy of Sarasota Memorial Healthcare System through positive role modeling and participation in unit based/hospital wide councils and committees.
- Participating in utilizing supplies in a safe, effective, and financially responsible manner.
- Maintaining a safe work environment.
- Cooperating and accepting other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Florida licensure as Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
- Paramedic, or a military corpsman or National licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) which must be maintained active during employment
- Nursing students who are eligible for CNA exam are required to: a.) currently be enrolled in an accredited school of Nursing (RN/LPN); b.) have completed the first semester of clinical for ASN/BSN degree or completion of first trimester for LPN; and c.) cannot be currently licensed in the U.S. as a RN or LPN
- Patient Care Technician (PCT) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Certification: Provide certification of successful completion of a Florida State Board approved program and successfully obtain a Florida CNA license within 120 days of graduation.
**Employees hired without the above licensure and/or by years of experience only prior to 11/11/19, are grandfathered in and will have the option of obtaining the stipulated licensure.
Preferred Qualifications:- Prefer working knowledge of commonly used computer applications.
Mandatory Education:HS EQ: High School Diploma, GED or Certificate
Required License and Certs:
- BLS: Basic Life Support/CPR
- Full-time is 3 12-hour shifts/week.Part-time is 2 12-hour shifts/week.
- PRN opportunities also available. PRN Plan 1 requires 1 12-hour shift per pay period. PRN Plan 2 requires a minimum of 4 12-hour weekend shifts/month.
The hospital is staffed seven days/week and working alternate weekends is required on most units.
- Day shift: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Night shift: 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
- Pay range is $18.50/hour (minimum) to $26.50/hour (maximum) based on experience.
