Hudson Valley Hospice is offering a New York State Home Health Aide Training and Certification program for those who qualify with no cost to the student! These training programs are held at our Poughkeepsie office (374 Violet Ave). We do not have any remaining PCA to HHA or full week HHA courses open for 2024. New dates for 2025 will be posted at the end of the year. Please look out for the new Program Application to apply at that time. We are offering two additional CNA to HHA conversion class (two-day class). This class is specifically for those who already hold a valid NYS CNA License and looking to obtain an HHA certification. You must have a valid CNA License to participate in this two day class. Remaining CNA to HHA training classes for 2024:
- October 2nd and 3rd
- November 7th and 8th
During each training program, you will learn the necessary skills to care for patients and support their loved ones, emerging with a portable skill that is in critical need throughout our country. Upon completion of the three week course and passing the exam, you will receive your HHA certification. If you feel this is the right fit for you and meet the following criteria, apply to our program today!!What you will do as a Home Health Aide:
- Completes Home Health Aide duties following established plan of care. This may consist of toileting, bathing, repositioning, feeding and any other ADL ( activities of daily living) that are outlined by the RN.
- May provide 24-hour continuous care for patient/families in their home, as needed.
- Reports all patient condition changes and/or uncontrolled symptoms to primary nurse, on-call nurse, TL or DPS immediately.
- Maintains adequate records of all patient/family care services, as per policy through use of the Electronic Medical Record on a tablet or smartphone.
- Completes required competencies, infection control and in-services.

Minimum Requirements:
- Valid CNA License that can be presented
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Valid Driver's License with Reliable transportation and be comfortable driving from one patient home to another
- Ability to lift at least 40 pounds
- Flu Shot (when in season)
