Job Description:

Summary (Position Description): This position will have the responsibility of designing and developing manufacturing processes in a precision manufacturing environment. The engineer will be part of multiple groups including new product design, current production, and quality improvement.

Reports To: Manufacturing Engineering Manager

Status: Non- Exempt Contract

Pay Range: $80,000 - $100,000

Hours: Monday- Friday Full Time

As a CNC Machining Engineer, you will:

• Evaluate innovative technology as it relates to machining process development and realization.

• Use Finite Element Analysis to design, develop and test new and existing machining fixtures to fulfill drawing requirements.

• Active support of product changes, new product launches and new product development.

• Anticipate solutions to optimize current and future processes and products.

• Juggle multiple high level engineering projects at once.

• Conduct and document process improvement activities (i.e., new/existing tooling, speeds, feeds, fixturing, process sheets, etc.) to support and execute manufacturing process improvements.

• Assist in the selection of new manufacturing equipment including machines, tooling, and fixturing.

• Assist maintenance and upper management to define TPM activities that are in alignment with BIPROS (Bitzer Production System).

• Create written job instructions and train CNC Job-Setters on all manufacturing processes.

• Create and update CNC process sheets and tooling sheets.

• Use statistical methods to track machining trends and identify areas of improvement within the manufacturing process.

• Determine ways to lower tooling costs.

• Identify root causes for machining scrap. Create countermeasures until the root cause can be accurately determined.

• Plan and execute Design of Experiments using Minitab or other methods

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):

• Excel at root cause and corrective action methodologies

• Basic understanding of Lean Manufacturing philosophies and methods

• Thorough understanding of Statics, Dynamics, and Strength of Materials

• Knowledge of Okuma and Makino milling machines.

• Basic knowledge of computer programming languages (C++, MATLAB, Python etc.)

• Advanced ability to analyze statistical data by means of Minitab or Microsoft Excel.

• Ability to interpret CAD drawings (GD&T knowledge preferred)

• General skill in 3D CAD (Mastercam, NX CAM, Unigraphics, Solid works, fushing360, ProE etc.)

• Experience with CNC programming, tool-path generation via CAM, tool design, fixture design, daily machine troubleshooting, new product development.

• Demonstrates the ability to support a multi functioning, precision manufacturing line.

• Knowledge of Coordinate Measuring Machines

• Demonstrated understanding of FEA analysis

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or manufacturing engineering technology

• Ability to effectively meet and communicate with employees, the public and vendors.

• Daily contact requires courtesy, discretion and sound judgment.

• Solid PC skills using Microsoft Office software, as well as a working knowledge of general office equipment.

• Good written communication skills and effective organizational skills.

• Ability to work collectively with others within the organization.

• Ability to work independently and under limited supervision.

• Analytical thinker who is willing and able to be hands on at all times.

Work Environment:

• This job is performed in a professional office and manufacturing environment. This role will use standard office equipment, 3 axis CNC machining centers and associated tools, fixtures and inspection equipment.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; bend; stoop; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. May be required to lift forty pounds. Frequent physical exertion expended in handling materials, tools, operating machines, or equipment.
