  • POSITION: CNC Machinist IIIDEPARTMENT: Machine ShopREPORTS TO: Site LeaderCOMPANY SUMMARY:Machine Solutions provides manufacturing and testing equipment for catheter and medical device manufacturers. PlasticWeld Systems (PWS), as a division of Machine Solutions is able to provide our customers with a wide range of solutions for medical device manufacturing. PWS provides innovative production equipment for catheter and medical disposables manufacturers. We offer an excellent opportunity for highly motivated individuals in a fast-paced, biotech organization.GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:Manufacture of parts utilizing machine shop equipment.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Set-up and operation of various CNC machine tools to meet the internal design and production needs.
  • Experience with G&M codes (read and write) and close tolerance (0.0002 typically).
  • Familiarity with and ability to use CAD/CAM systems/software
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and sketches.
  • Setup, Program and Run the CNC Mills and CNC Lathes, Haas experience is a plus
  • Setup, Program and Run other CNC controlled machines, including but not limited to Sinker EDMs, Wire EDMs and Swiss Lathes
  • Design Fixtures to reduce setup time
  • Increase efficiencies with existing process and develop new processes
  • Must be able to work independently and provide feedback to improve designs and cycle times.
  • Maintain records and clean production areas to comply with medical equipment requirements, good manufacturing practices, and standard operating procedures.
  • Must perform detailed work in fabrication, assembly, maintenance, and repair of a variety of custom parts and tools.
  • Must practice a high degree of accuracy and precision in performing work according to instructions and specifications.
  • Assignments are received in the form of written and oral instructions, penciled layouts, blueprints, sketches, and by reference to worn or broken parts. Work is subject to inspection during process and upon completion for quality and conformity with requirements.
  • Fabricates, maintains, and repairs products through the operation of milling machines, lathes, grinder, saws, drill presses, and similar equipment
  • Measures work carefully by using precision tools such as calipers, micrometer, and CMM.
  • Uses, adjusts, maintains, cleans, and stores the tools, machinery, and equipment in the machine shop.
  • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality products and seamless customer service.
  • Ad-hoc projects as needed
  • Will be responsible to train and supervise lower-level machinists
  • Handles complex issues and problems, and refers only the most complex issues to higher-level staff
  • Provides leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group
  • QUALIFICATIONS:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.Math Skills:Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.Reasoning Ability:Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Minimal time is spent walking, some time is spent stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling and lots of time is spent standing, using hands to finger, handle, or feel, reaching with hands and arms, talking and hearing. Sometime will be spent lifting up to 25 lbs and minimal time will be spent lifting up to 50 lbs.WORK ENVIRONMENT:Minimal time will be spent near fumes or airborne particles, and near caustic or toxic chemicals. Lots of time will be spent near moving mechanical parts. The noise level is expected to be loud, e.g. operating machinery (mills, lathes, grinder, sander, etc.)ADDITIONAL INFO:Assignments are received in written and oral instructions, penciled layouts, blueprints, sketches, and by reference to worn or broken parts.
