- Plans operational sequences, tooling, tools arrangement and clearances, and settings for standardized, new, or unusual work according to layouts & blueprints.
- Mill, Lathe, or both experience
- Adapts and improvises standard tooling and attachments to perform specialized work or variations on parts and does tooling off-sets.
- Grinds or prescribes grinding for standard or special tooling to suit materials or unusual cutting conditions.
- Installs collets, tooling in holders, set tooling stops, and indexing mechanisms operating travel and tool feed rates.
- Sets feed mechanisms and stop to perform operations such as the face, form, drill, ream, bore, and tap up to the capacity of the machines.
- Uses drills, reamers, undercut tools, recessing tools, and calipers.
- Monitors steel degree of hardness.
- Monitors hydraulic and cooling fluid levels.
- Maintains machinery through periodic cleaning and oiling.
- Creates pre-set tooling.
- Diagnoses machine malfunctions and operating difficulties which cause deviations and then makes corrective adjustments.
- Other duties may be assigned to meet the needs of the business.
RequirementsEducation
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Experience
- At least one year as a CNC operator or equivalent experience in a similar occupation.
Specific Skills/Abilities
- Ability to perform complete set-ups in a 45-minute to one-hour time frame.
- Ability to read blueprints.
- Horizontal mill experience a plus
Systems (hardware, software, computer, etc.)
- An individual should be able to use and understand internal software.
- CAM or CAD software experience a plus
- Experience with G&M codes and their functions
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Physical Activities include: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing for significant periods, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, picking or pinching, grasping, perceiving attributes of objects, conveying with other workers, hearing and repetitive motions.
- Physical Requirements are heavy and can exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and 20 pounds constantly to move and load objects.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Duties are occasionally performed under dust, dirt, heat, cold, and fumes. Tasks are frequently performed under noisy conditions. There is occasional exposure to cuts and abrasions. Observation Acuity standard is the minimum for machine operators, where the job inspection is at or within arm's reach.
