Location: Jackson,MI, USA
Saint-Gobain CertainTeed Gypsum is looking for a driven, talented, and energetic research Co-op to join our current Gypsum Finishing division. This position will work closely with a gypsum finishing Research Engineer based out of the Jackson Development Center in Jackson, Michigan. A primary focus of this position will be research, development, and competency testing of corners finishing products.
Under the supervision of a Research Engineer the incumbent will develop testing standards, produce lab scale samples, run experiments, analyze data, write test reports, support existing projects, and assist in the design of new corners products. Collaboration with other functional stakeholders within Saint-Gobain will also be a key part of this role (e.g., gypsum research colleagues, product management, sales, marketing, etc.). When necessitated, occasional supervised travel to other CertainTeed research and manufacturing sites can be expected.
**MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:**
+ Organizing and documenting projects effectively under minimal supervision by a technical leader
+ Effectively communicating and collaborating in all areas of responsibility
+ Building of test samples for the purpose of performing lab scale experiments
+ Developing and performing tests pertaining to new and existing corners products
+ Learning and Implementing Gate Process methodology/ideology. Utilizing and incorporating it in research projects.
+ Actively implementing the knowledge learned in class to projects pertaining to CertainTeed construction products
+ Learning and adhering to company policies
**COMPETENCIES:**
+ Hands on experience using basic manufacturing tools (e.g. battery drills, impact drivers, hammers, wrenches, tape measures, shears, sanders, table saws, miter saws, etc.)
+ Experience performing lab experiments and writing technical reports
+ Experience using Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams)
+ Ability to read engineering drawings
Preferred:
+ Previous experience in manufacturing buildings or working for a construction contractor
+ Experience modeling and/or creating engineering drawings in CAD software (Fusion 360 preferred)
+ Familiarity with operating electromechanical universal materials testing machines
+ Actively enrolled in an accredited Bachelor's degree program in the field of engineering or science
+ Have a creative problem-solving mindset with a hands-on approach
+ Ability to analyze data and write reports in a clear way
+ Possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills
+ Work safely and effectively with a diverse R&D team actively supporting a culture of safety
+ Previous research/intern experience is a plus
